New Baby Veild

Hi, I am picking up a baby veild tomorrow, im not to sure how old, but i am just wondering how much i should be feeding to start off with?

Iv'e read alot about keeping the little fella but everywhere i have read is giving me different opions on how much i should feed him, thought why not ask people who have been there done that!

It really depends on the chameleons size. Try the cup feeding technique, and anything your cham doesn't eat within 10 minutes, remove.

Ya im with superrad it all depends on how big the chameleon is but most common feeders are crickets, super worms, meal worms, phoenix worms, silk and horn worms, and roaches but i don't do them they creep me out.

Not sure I agree with that, if I had done that he would never eat anything, cup has to be in there for quite a while and he has to think nobody is about before he starts eating. I fill the cup up in the morning with about 8-10, put more in when I get home from work and remove it completely at lights out.

Well i'm assuming if he adapts to the cup just as my two did.

Also i am going to get a plant for outside the enclosure and was wondering what time of light i should use when he is on it?

A plant for outside the enclosure? What time of light? DO you meant type? If you meant type you need a normal bulb to provide a basking spot with a high temp and you need a UVB tube alongside this. If you meant time then 10-12 hours is what seems to be usggested for lights on periods. Is that what you mean?

sorry when i said outside the enclosure i meant just for an hour or so because i have read it is good to let them wonder for abit, but its sorted now so no worries!

Also he is wolfing down about 8-9 small crickets a day at the mo the greedy pig so im all good there...Heres the pic

Just wondering what is the best thing to put on the bottom of the enclosure... currently have bark but the crickets seem to be just hiding underneath when i put them in...i have a cup that he feeds out of but i would like to let some roam so he can go hunting

Bark could easily be accidently consumed by your Cham

If you need a substrate at the bottom of your enclosure, newspaper would work well. Its easy to clean-up/remove, cheap, and most importanly, not harmful to your Cham.

Yeah best thing seems to be have nothing on the bottom, My chameleon has never been on the floor of teh enclosure as far as I know. I have a few paper towels to absorb water from the dripper but thats it.
