New Around Here~

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to stop by and say I am new to the forums.

I am not a current owner of a Chameleon, but I am planning on getting the new family member sometime this week. I am stuck between Panther and Veiled, both such beautiful creatures. I have looked at many potential breeders, and found some grand looking Chams from a few. I have been doing my research for a few months now on harboring these amazing herps, and they appear splendid if I do say so myself.

I have owned many reptiles and amphibians before, such a herp lover! Exotics I have a deep passion for. ;)
I currently own a female African Pygmy Hedgehog named Raine, and a female Brazillian Short-Tailed opossum named Lola. I also own a good-sized saltwater aquarium.

I hope to stick around, and I would love to meet everyone.

Thanks;
Brandi

Welcome to the #1 chameleon community! If you have any questions just ask and we will help you as much as we can

Thank you also.

Hope all goes well with your new cham! Always fun to have another member to the family.

Thanks you to. I also am a herp lover. Will be going to school in may to become a zoologist. I've bred cb redtail boas for 3 years. So chams are totally new to me. I will be getting a Ambilobe Panther.

They are quite new to me as well. Good luck at the school, a zoologist is an awesome job! Definitely a good choice. Honestly, the colour of the cham I receive does not matter to me. The thing I am looking for is a well-cared for cham. I would like a Nosy-be though, such nice colours. Ambilobes are just as excellent! Some can prove to be quite a bit more pricey than others.

Welcom to the best source you will find on the net. You will find that this is a great place to learn. Lots of people with great ideas and deffrent beliefs. Some will say to only handle when you need too some will say handle every day. I free range some are against it. What im saying is this is a great tool to go by. Peoples opinions are diffrent and go with what ever your most comfy with. Sounds like your starting out doing the right thing and getting info before you get your cham. I like veileds.

Thanks!

I think others having different opinions is a great thing to use. Comparing each helps grasp a better idea of what you want to do, in my opinion. It also allows you to see others experiences and reasonings.

Yes, I have done quite a bit of research! But the more knowledge I have will allow me to do better for my cham.

I have really learn alot so far from people on here. Still learning as much as i can. Nose be panthers are awesome the cheapest place i've found for panthers is chameleons101.com. But i will be buying one at our expo coming up in April from a locale breeder. Unless I break down before and get one. I like hearing different opinions from everybody.

Welcome to the addiction! Make sure to post lots of pictures when you get him (assuming it's male.)

Thanks you guys ;)

I sure will! I have always been notorious for hogging the camera at my place :p

I am not sure to get male or female, either is fine by me.

Go with a male for your first one, unless you're dead set on female. Just do some extra researching if you get a female.

Personally I like the aggressive veiled attitude, so I would vote veiled.

Yeah, I was expecting to get a male.

Females seem to require a bit more than males, so maybe in the future I may get a female. For now, a male.

Everywhere I read that Veiled's are the best for beginners, so I am leaning towards Veiled's. Aggression is no problem, relationships are best developed with paitence. The reason being I considered Panthers is because they seem to range in a few more colours, and pretty popular with quite a bit of crowds.

Veileds and panthers are almost exactly the same in care except that veileds like it hotter and can stand it being drier.

Don't expect a very cuddly relationship with your chameleon. Though you can probably expect him to recognize you. My first chameleon never ever seemed to like me or even tolerate me. Then when I took him to the vet for the first time I realized he knew who I was and would climb back to me from the vet. He also wouldn't hold onto me as hard as he would the vet, or he atleast didn't have a death grip on me like he did her. :) he hated being handled though so I only did it every week or two to check on him.

I see, either one would be good~

I have already read about alot of people's perspective on handling their chams. I do not expect a buddy-buddy friendship or something like a lap-cat friendship. Most chams are more for seeing than for holding, correct? The most I would like to develope with my cham is the ability to move them when needed, and not to have them throw a hissy-fit when I am near. But of course, all animals are different when it comes to personality. As long as it is a happy cham! :)

Both my chams have the lap cat friendship it all boils down to if ur scared to handel your cham or not. Mine walks on my hand if Im in a hurry in mornning and don't put him on my head he gets darker colors if i hold him he is happy. I go in the living room sometimes he will leave his tree and walk to living room and you can tell he is looking for me I have woke up with him on my bed. If I hated my masters I wouldnt go looking for them.

Yes, I have also read where others have successfully had good relationships with their owners. :)

Either way is fine with me, like I said, a happy cham is what I want most. I want to do everything beneficial to the cham rather than myself foremost. I wouldn't want to stress out the poor thing with excessive handling, but if it somewhat likes attention, that is also great. :D
