Need Help with Graceful Chameleon!!!

I have a pothos in there.... a corn plant... and a delicate palm right now... I will dig out a small screen tank lid for drip bucket.... what about the basking lamp and temps?

The Raisingkittytheveiledchameleon link should tell you everything you need to know. I suggest getting a large ficus and an umbrella plant if you can. Good luck!

To be perfectly frank though, I'd spend the money on a vet trip over a cage and accessories at this point. He is a wild caught animal and without immediate medical attention he will not make it by the time a cage gets there.

Good luck!

Agreed. The eyes closing indicates the chameleon is not in good condition.
May I suggest taking him to the vet as soon as possible.
Knowing that a captive bred flapneck is not commonly available (compared to veiled chameleons and panthers), there is a big chance that animal is a wild caught.
plus, from the picture you have provided, he does not seem to be in a tip top condition.

Here is a link you should check to find out any exotic vet close by your area.

really...you should have done weeks of reasherch....its eyes are closed its in a glass cage....with substrate, at 100% humidity....wich equals a upper respitory infection for sure....no ventilation....and you have no time to care for it....you really should have red up im NOT TRYING to bash you im just stating...if kept like this ...this cham will be dead within 2 weeks. read the websites we have posted and keep askign questions this can be fixed but be prepared to spend MONEY. all i have to say...( You can tell if its male or female by looking at its back feet....if theres a little spur or bump that sticks out right were the 2 large toes meet ...its male ...if not its female)...please fix this imidiately

Honestly, if a poll was to be taken, I would doubt that more people learned all about cham care and planned for their purchase in advance, than didn't.
Astraeava most definitely did not make her cham sick.
The cham in question was purchased from a seller at a local reptile expo, who advised her that her original set-up was perfect for a cham.
Not only was he wrong about that, but he also appears to have sold her a sick cham (double shame on him!)
She posted on this forum to ask for husbandry advice.
By scolding her, how does that help the OP or anyone else?
IMHO anyone who is selling pets should know exactly what the requirements are for those pets and ethics dictate that one should only sell healthy pets.
She spent 12 hours building one of the nicest cham cages that I've ever seen.
Obviously not a person with an uncaring attitude towards her pets.
Virtually everyone, at some point, has made mistakes in their cham care---that's why these forums are great--we can get the correct info.
If each of us was chastised for our mistakes, then I seriously doubt many people would ever bother to post here--at least not more than once!

Thank you LoveReps.... I'm doing everything I can to try to make the little guy better. I got a digital thermometer today and I was wondering how warm the cage should be at different points and different times... right now he is in the middle of the cage on the pothos... he did drink a little when I misted him this morning.... but none at the noon misting... still not really opening his eyes much... looking into vets now... I was hoping the butterworms may intice him but he doesnt seem like he even cares to look for food which is really bad for any rep or herp...

Okay so I got a cage built.... whew took 12 hours by the way.... :p

Fantastic cage for a 12 hour effort!

I know some of us come across as scolding, but we hear stories about newbies with chams in totally wrong setups so often (and so often don't take the advice seriously) we stay sensitized. The seller should have heard our anger, not you. You've obviously jumped right in with all the best intentions. I hope your little cham does OK.

I know this is an old post, but I just happened upon it and didn't see the new cage before. Wow is that nice! Nice work! :D

How is the chameleon liking it?

lil, this post is 2 years old, lol. Ive been on yahoo answers alot, its not that everyone is, its just that alot of people are. There are a couple here too, just not nearly as many, there was someone yesterday who was yahoo answers equivalent, not mentioning names though
