My Vet Visit in Vegas

So I went to West Cheyenne Animal Hospital today in Las Vegas and had a vet appointment with Dr. Colmsetter. Overall I was very impressed, she knew a great deal about chameleons and exotics in general, I would definitely recommend her to anyone in the area. She complimented the appearance and health of both of my chameleons and said I was doing a great job . She also gave me some great advice on keeping chameleons. Anyways, she charges $40 dollars a checkup per chameleon, which seems reasonable to me. Do you agreer? Also, I know I should get checkups twice a year, but how often should I have fecals tested?

I have fecals on my guys about every 3 months. Glad that you found a good chameleon vet.

I have visited Kolmstetter a few times, just be sure you don't take everything she says as spoken word. Fecals are $33, pricey if you ask me. She does have some knowledge though, but just be cautious. If you need any help/advice, please P.M. us, as we are in your area.

Thanks ChrisnLisa. You are right, there was one thing she recommended that seemed a little off then that. It was just a relief to visit a vet that actually had experience with chameleons and knew what to look for . Which vet do you use in the area?

I've jumped back and forth between her and Dr. Gorman at Creature Comforts. I feel both are ok, but it is very frustrating sometimes with the both of them. Often I feel I have more knowledge than both. They both tend to listen, and just repeat back what I have told them. Gorman seems to listen more, and trust my judgment, while Kolmstetter won't budge on most things. I have a male that has had an eye issue since Nov-ish, and neither Dr. can tell me a damn thing. I have spent roughly $700-800 on this one chams vet bills so far with no sign of change or improvement. Both Dr's question what has been done by the other, and neither can agree on a darn thing. Just a little frustrating at this point. But anyway, those are the two I frequent only if, and when an issue arises.

Ya I understand your frustrations. Chameleons really are an underground type of pet, which explains why so many veterinarians know little (if anything) about them. I am waiting for the day when the number of people who keep chameleons passes the number of people who own dogs and cats . Then we will finally get some vets that focus solely on chameleons and actually know more then we already do .
