Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - male veiled, approx 11months, got him about 4 days ago
Handling - handle for short periods every day -I would not handle at all until he is adjusted. Give him a few weeks.
Feeding - crickets gutloaded with cricket food and given water gel with calcium. meal worms gut loaded with oatmeal and apples for moisture No meal worms-they are a nasty feeder and can lead to impaction-Superworms are great.
Supplements -dust with repti cal with vit D daily Get some calcium with no D3 and use that 5-6X weekly, use calcium with D3 2X monthly, and a multilvite like Reptivite 1X monthly.
Watering - spray bottle with hot water and 2 drops of repti safe. he drinks roughly every 4 days the lady says. mist twice a day for a few minutes each time What? Every 4 days? He needs to be misted at least twice daily for a few minutes each time making sure that all of his plants are good and drippy. Mist more if he is opening his mouth or licking his lips or drinking out of the sprayer rather then licking the leaves.
Fecal Description - never tested for parasites, feces are slightly wet when fresh then dry to look like rasins
History - i just bought him a few days ago from a lady. he currently has a swollen eye and doc says he may have vit A deficientcy
Cage Info:
Cage Type - 5'x3'x2' screen/wood cage with lots of plants and vines Any live plants? Live plants help with humidity.
Lighting - 12 hrs on/12 hrs off. 2 zoo med-48" uvb 10. lights, one on each side. 1 zoo med 12" uvb strip light on top. 50 watt heat light.UVB lights need to be changed out every 6-9 months. You really only need 1 Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 light at the top of the cage. You can use a regular 60-75W household lightbulb in a clamp lamp for basking. No light or heat at night.
Temperature - currently 80 in basking area, not sure what it is at the bottom. dont know night temp cause im asleep, but just a few degrees cooler. 150 watt ceramic heater (the ones with no light) and 50 watt red heat bulb. use a didgital thermometor in basking area You do not need the red bulb or the ceramic heater. If your temps drop below 50 you could use the ceramic heater at night. You need to know your temps. Basking could be 85-90, rest of cage should be ambient low 70's.
Humidity -currently 60% more after misting. use humidity gauge. considering buying humidifier You probably do NOT need a humidifier.
Plants - 2 large plants--- umbrella plant, and one other one im not sure the name of (but lady make sure it was safe for him when she bought it)
Placement -cage located in living room... not particularly high traffic though people do sit in the room. not near vents or fans. in sight of a window, but not close enough for drafts
Location - california
I would leave the vitamin A up to the Vet-but only if the Vet knows chameleons and what he is doing. You do not want to over supplement vitamin A. Have a tube of Terramycin on hand to help out with eye issues.
