He is a veiled chameleon and about 6 months old and I've read that when chameleons have their eyes closed a lot its not a good thing. I really dont want him to die because he is so cool. So i was wondering if anyone could help. I spray calcium stuff on my crickets every other day and i feed him about 6 crickets a day. I was going to get some wax worms today to give him for some extra treats, is that a good idea? Also how many wax worms and how often should i feed him. I also have the right temp/humidity and uvb light and heat light. Thanks

He is a veiled chameleon and im not sure if he is a male or female yet. I have only had him for about 5 days and am using a 20 watt uvb bulb and heat bulb. I was going to get a 70 watt uvb bulb today and replace it with the 20 watt because he basks under the uvb light mostly all day.

I handle him maybe twice a day but i never stress him out i just want him to get used to me and used to feeding out of my hand. He eats about 8 crickets a day and i use zilla calcium supplement spray to spray on the crickets. Should i spray them everyday or every other day?

I mist the cage about 3 times a day and sometimes i like to put some ice cubes on top of the cage to let it drip down.
The last time he went to the bathroom was about 2 days ago and it was a sort of yellowish brown color but i havent seen any other droppings in his cage.

I got a bird cage for him cuz i couldnt afford a screen one. Its about 2 feet high and one and a half foot wide, so its kinda like a rectangle. It has plenty of foliage and things for him to climb on. The temps are good at 80 on the bottom of the cage and 97 under the heat lamp. The temp goes down to about 75 at night and i have 2 hygrometer's to measure this.

My humidity right now is pretty low at 40 percent but most of the time it is at 60 percent. I am using fake plants. The cage isnt by any fans or any traffic areas and is on top of my computer desk so about 4 feet off the ground.
I am worried about his eyes closing and it just seems like hes real lazy and doesnt want to move much. Thanks for the help. O and i live in pennsylvania

sorry to hear your little guy is not feeling well. You need to be specific on what lights you are using. Are you using one light for both uva and uvb or seperate lights?. What brand? Unscrew the light and read what it says. Correct lighting is crucial. Also, 97 is a very high basking temp. I would bring that down to about 85 or so. What are you feeding your crickets?

Thanks carol, he seems a lot better today. I am using a 20 watt uvb bulb, its not a heat/uvb bulb, just a uvb bulb. Then on the other side of my cage is where i keep the heat bulb. I dont have the boxes for them but i heard that nothing under a 70 watt uvb bulb should be used and im only using a 20 watt, so i dont know what to do there.

I feed my crickets potatoe and i spray zilla food spray calcium supplement on them before feeding. Thanks

Do any of you guys think i should get another 20 watt cfl uvb bulb and put it on top of my cage with the other uvb bulb. So i would have 3 bulbs all together, 2 uvb bulbs and 1heat bulb. Would this be a good idea. Thanks

I am using 2 hygrometers, one on the bottom of the cage and one up under the heat lamp/basking area. Thanks for the reply and the link its much appreciated.

Unfortunately when i click the link the page is just blank so I'll just go to the site and look for it, thanks again.
