My Silkworm Set-ups

Miss Lily

I bought Amy and Tommy approx 100 silkworms for Christmas. Unfortunately several of the really small ones haven't made it, but most are growing strong and are now approaching a good size to be fed off. I thought I would post pics of the set-ups I keep them in. I started off with 4 cricket tubs into which I placed a piece of pastic canvas cut to size to create a false floor for the frass to fall through. I have been keeping the tubs on top of Amy's vivarium on the top of the UV unit for warmth, and cleaning and feeding the little blighters daily! They take nearly as much looking after as Amy and Tommy do, lol! Here's a pic of one of the tubs:

where do you buy them from i tried butterworms website but they sold out they r so hard tom find

I have previously ordered a few times from Butterworms and although expensive they offer a good service. This last lot was a batch of 100 off of ebay for only a couple of £s more than 25 cost at Butterworms.

Tiff, I bet you could raise them up to moths and make a few bucks off of the eggs! :)

I could, but I don't have access to Mulberry leaves. I could buy some powder and make some chow though I suppose. I buy ready made chow, but I think it would be cheaper to buy powder and make my own. I might let one or two pupate into moths though, just to see what they are like. I'm sure Amy and Tommy would love a big fat moth for brekkie one day! I have had some success with breeding waxworms, so I may give silkies a try!

what did u type in on ebay
I just typed in 'silkworms' and 'silkworm'. Here's a link to the ones I bought - from silkies4u - he doesn't have any items listed at the moment though. http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/silkies4u
