ok, so I got this ONe single silkworm moth that hatched today!. He/she is awfully cute for a moth!! I was told that they do not eat and they do not fly. So my question is how long do they live, do they get bigger if it is true they do not eat, and so you either feed him/her off or it sits in the container and dies? I mean if I let it go outside then it doesnt fly it will surely get eaten by the outside lizards so I guess I will feed it off! Just wondering if they get much bigger! thanks all!

They don't fly - they just flap their wings to attract each other I think! They don't eat or grow - just mate, lay eggs and die. My first one, Moffy, lived for 9 days - I only had him and couldn't bear to feed him to anyone, lol! They are incredibly cute aren't they?!:D

Do you expect others to hatch or this single cocoon you have, that hatched? If there are more, maybe wait some days to hatch, mate and lay eggs, than you gonna get some more worms after a while :)

Carol!

You must let us know what Romeo thinks of his Grand Moth Meal! Well, if yu shut your eyes and just go for it that is! LOL! I am sure it is cute so I'd hate to do it too... but like you said if it is only going to die or be eaten by something else you might as well let Romeo enjoy it... might be like a steak to him who knows!!! :D

I only kept my first hatched moth - I was totally unprepared for the cuteness factor, lol! The second lot I fed a couple off before they died. Amy and Tommy enjoyed them!

Well I never counted the days actually but checked my post asking a question when it first hatched and it was on 10/17 and today is 10/31 so I guess it was two weeks then. Miss Lilly, I was surpised how small they are! In your picture, yours looked so big. I guess I should have known by the size of the cocoon , because it wasn't very big! Anyways, they are awfully cute and my daugher and I were just talking and she said "I ain't doing it"! I figured let the poor little guy enjoy atleast a few days on this Earth, but as long as he cannot be set free and fly away I guess Romeo will get new snack!
Does anyone know if the moths have a different nutritional value than the worms themselves?

From what I've read they are not as nutritious as silkworms are. I guess they go through all their nutrients when they morph into moths....or something like that...but they would still make a nice snack...lol...it is a shame they are so cute though...
