My Red Tegu...

I just noticed that my Red Tegu (6 months old) has had a broken left middle finger. It doesnt move when his other toes grip and it can bend all the way back to his arm. It has been like this for months. Can a vet do anything at all? It has been there for months - when I got him 4 months ago, he jumped out of my arms. That is the only way I could think this could've happened. I didn't notice it then.

What to do...?

Not sure about the answer here but I do have some experience with other monitors. A lot of times when they are smaller and especially the species that have the "long, skinny fingers", they seem almost as if they were broken because they can move like they shouldn't.

Does it seem to be okay otherwise? Does it seem to be hurting when it uses that hand/arm? Honestly, if you are unsure, that's a sign you need to see a vet.

I would say if it's been that way for awhile and doesn't seem to bother him, then let it be. If he were in the wild, he wouldn't go to a vet and just live with it. It probably happens more in the wild in my opinion due to running from predators running to catch food, mating, etc. In captivity, we try to make their environment as safe as possible, but things happen.

I second Donna's comments. If its been so for months, its likely whatever healing has occured, its not really something a vet can put a cast on anyway.
If there is feeling in the toe and it looks healthy otherwise, the lizard will be fine.
Your only concern might be that it sheds off the skin on the toes properly, but this should be observed anyway.
