My pygmy tanks-and happy pygmy news!

Gawd, these are probably the worst vivarium pictures ever taken- apologies for my old camera and (apparently) unsteady hands. However, here are my two brev tanks for your viewing pleasure. (see attachments)

One is a twenty long, the other is a twenty high. Each of them houses a group of 1.2 brevs. I started with one female and two male juveniles (WC) last September in the twenty long, but I knew that was a bad ratio and I wanted more! So I built the twenty high and it sat empty for a few months. In December I noticed one of the males was pretty much bullying the other one, displaying at him, chasing him, etc. (probably the onset of sexual maturity, as he also started chasing the female pretty vigorously around the same time) so I moved the smaller male into the twenty. Then in early January I (finally!) got three more adult females! After quarantine I distributed them among the males. And, excitingly, when I got home from work today I found one of the females in the twenty long laying eggs!! Wish me luck!! ^___^

Nice setups! Pigmys sure can be fun, especially when set up like that. Good luck with the kids.

Thanks guys!

Excellent! How many eggs did you get? How have your WC females been doing since you got them?

I saw at least two- I didn't want to freak her out by staring so I went away to let her finish, and when I came back she was burying them. They may have laid more eggs in that same spot that I just didn't see, since I've seen her digging there earlier and the dirt level there tends to change suspiciously. The WC girls have been doing great! They pretty much started eating as soon as I got them, and seem to have settled in fine. I actually haven't had a single problem with these guys so far, aside from a little bullying by the dominant male in the 20 long. He's pretty much a jerk with the ladies, too! It's fun to watch him get all stripy and puffed and chase them around when he's 'in the mood'

what is the average life span of a pygmy?

I've heard 2-3 years maximum...not a very long time, but they are fun!
