my new vailed has MBD HELP PLEASE!!!?

Hard to see on a phone. he does have the classic u shaped arm though. i'd say yes unfortunately. time for 5.0 and d3 to be introduced into his life.

It does appear to have mbd, and to be a female.

what do you supplement with?

What do you feed? how do you gutload?

What lights do you use?

Can you take her outside for natural sun?

question is shall i take him back or try to treat him

Your decision.

The disease can be halted, but any damage done is permanent

treating can be an issue, esp if its more advanced.

Youll need to see a vet to check calcium levels, as well as get some liquid calcium (either from the vet or from a pharmacy) to treat it.

REPASHY CALCIUM PLUS LoD
Nekton REP
Exo Terra Calcium + D3

Im not sure if the lucky reptile bulb ha UVB. which you need in order to care for her.

If you can get a pic of the back of the back feet, I can sex her for sure. though the markings imply female.

You may want to get the repashy cal normal one, not the loD, as that one is more for montane species.

If you want to keep her, this forum can help you.

It will require work, but she can live a relatively normal life.

ALso, youll need an egg laying bin, as females will lay eggs, male involved or not.

I stand corrected. Its a male.

Odd though that he hasn't developed any barring at that size. but def a male.

That's the hyd version, you can use that for now, as I believe it can be used for treating mbd.

However, I would use that maybe 2 times a week, then use this one for every other feeding.

you can also get a liquid calcium from a store, and put a drop or two on a couple bugs each feeding, to help the calcium levels.

happy to help, I know it can be worrisome.

and to clarify, when I said ever other feeding for the repashy link I gave you, I meant use the hyD 2 times, then for the rest of the weeks feedings, use the regular repashy.

:)

When a chameleon has MBD the calcium and other nutrients have to be brought back into balance and the husbandry proper to keep it from returning.

The quickest way to correct it is for a vet to give the chameleon injections of calcium until the blood calcium levels are high enough to give it a shot of calcitonin which rapidly draws the calcium back into the bones.

As for buying a chameleon from a chain pet store I understand your stress. My veiled also came to me with various health issue which I was aware of. It's been a slightly expensive adventure with my little guy but I'm glad I did it. The weird part is the MBD only really affected the front legs which it don't understand. However he is healthy and living a much better life. If you don't have the means to take care of him but want him to have a better life there is a chameleon rescue that I'm sure would be happy to take him in!
