My New Carpets - YAYYYYY

Finally I got 2 carpets. They are wild caught so I have segregated them from my veileds by putting them in another room. I am hoping they are male and female but I can't really tell too much. I thought maybe you guys could offer your opinions. Also, do you think that one is pregnant with eggs? Sorry for the poor pics.

Also, if you raise carpets and can offer suggestions, please don't hesitate!

Congrats on the new chameleons! Where did you get those? The first one is very colorful....maybe that means she's gravid.

I didn't even know you were branching out into carpets, they look good. I don't know jack about carpets so can't offer any help, but congrats.

Aww! Congrats, they are beautiful. I would love to have some Carpets one day, but unfortunately they are extremely rare in the UK - CB are about as common as rocking horse droppings, lol!! Looks to me like the first and last pic are female and the middle two are male.

Those are very beautiful chams! I would love to get some carpets but the only thing that puts me off is their short lifespan.

Doh! I got it the wrong way round! I thought the first one was a female!

If you get better pics of the tail base I can sex them but I'm inclined agree with you; the first and last pics are the gravid female and the green specimen is the male (middle two pics). Carpets need slightly lower temperatures and higher humidity than your average lowland species.

Carpets are a nice species; have fun with them.
Cheers,
T

Insert foot in my mouth . I shouldn't have and never will again doubt you. :D I looked at the bigger pic. But I will say, They are both girls.

Me too! The matching pics are 1 and 4 - 2 and 3. I guess 1 is male and 2 is female. They aren't interested in each other as mates, but there was no gaping or hissing when I introduced them.

Both girls! Oh no!!!! I have tail shots of each.

Hey, it's great to see you branching out into other species! Carpets really are gorgeous.

On the sexing thing, there's a reason we started using the phrase "hung like a Furcifer." I've only ever had one lat. lat., but it was a male and had a ginormous hpb (hemipenalbulge). I think that's two females.

Here was my confusion.

Male look at buldge , quite obvious. Colors kinda look like first pic if you don't open , like my dumb you know what didn't

Me too

Jim F. (Chameleon Company - site sponsor) has some nice looking CB's for sale (see the classifieds) at a more than reasonable price. I think there is another forum member that also has some for sale. AND, if you're willing to wait for them, I have some that are hatching out.

You will enjoy your carpets! While they do have a short life span, it is still more than rewarding to keep them.

Did you get them from ben siegel reptiles? if so they are a pair and she has already layed but may have more to lay she only layed 8 i think
