My mantids hatched!

I just bought ooths from Pssh.

I got them like two days ago, and had plans to set them up in their cage. when i walked in this morning, one ooth had started hatching...
this is my first time with them,... so i have no idea if they are easy or not.

and arent they super duper tiny?

the pic of them on my nail, thats my pinky!

They will take quite a bit of time to get a good size for feeding. Unless for babies, mantis are a lot of work for just feeders. I raise many species of praying mantis and my chams love them. They get the excess and any mismolts. I call them my "mantis disposals".:D

Well nice cause I have tons of crickets to feed them :) so I guess I'll have to give them a try soon

I second this.. I have been raising these for feeders, and it is not really "economical" lol... But they are a lot of fun, and really cool to watch. I almost feel bad feeding them off when the time comes!:p

patrick- I have a male hoehnelli that this size is perfect for. so hes going to get a couple. hes very small, maybe 5 inches nose to tip of tail,

I only plan on keeping like 6 for pets. and even though i know i wil have a hard time feeding them off, i bought them to feed off.

i dont think i plan to breed them, i just got them to get something different for my chammies ot eat.

chamomillecame- i am feeding them fruit flies.
