hey guys,
my male panther seems a little bit darker than normal. generally his color at rest is fairly bright. thats how hes been since ive got him about 3 months ago. his temp peaks at about 90 but it usually sits around 88 at his highest basking spot. he gets sprayed regularly, drinks, redily eats. ive even managed to keep a constant humidity level of about 60 in his room.(which isnt easy considering i live in Canada. i know hes bound to shed soon. i can see brighter patches on his body so im wondering if shedding is the reason. i know he was a little dehydrated & had a little bit of extra skin to shed when i got him. although he looks ashy, he gets brighter when hes hunting. so im not sure if that is the reason. so im wondering, is there a reason why a chams rest color may appear to be darker? does it mean hes getting ready to shed or could it be a mood thing? unfortunately i cant post any pics at the moment. so just by using my description could anybody give me any idea to why a cham would get a bit darker in genral when a nothing in a good setup has changed. the only other thing i can think of is that hes getting darker to soak in more heat? dont wanna let his temp get over 90. was told by my breeder that 85 to 90 was a suitable temp depending on the pastieness of the poop. any insight appreciated. thanks
