My latest holdback and his sire.

Hey everyone,

About 2 months back I had a Sambava clutch hatch out. I had 12 out of 27 eggs make it to term and only 6 hatch out and sadly I've lost 2. However, the four I have are going strong and getting big quickly. I believe I have a 1.3 clutch. Here's the suspected male I'm planning to keep:

It's the largest of the group and the only one that shows a faint green tint. Also doesn't bear red under the throat like the other three.

Here's the sire in "at rest" coloration. He's 15mo old and exceptionally tame.

I haven't photographed the other three babies (which I suspect are female) because they've all been moved into a new 16x16x20 cage which is filled with a ficus and they're exceptionally difficult to get a hold of.

Best regards,
Dave

Well, he certainly is a cute little guy. We are expecting some Sambava hatchlings, perhaps in June. I can't wait. Do you have any idea why some eggs didn't make it? COuld you tell a difference in them while they were incubating?

Sorry to hear about your low hatch rate. Hatching panthers can be a difficult task thats why I feel the price for cbb panthers is justified.

I don't know why they didn't hatch, nor did I see a difference between good vs. bad. Towards the end of the incubation I started to let the conditions get warmer, High 70s, and let the media dry out a bit. This triggered hatching for the 6, but not for the rest I guess. However, my son did flip over the incubation container shortly after the 6 hatched, that seems to have done in the majority. I still have one egg that looks like it could be good.

Thanks, but to be honest I'm happy to have hatched even a few. It makes the wait well worth it. Seems like I only got one male, which is too bad because most people want males. However, the bloodline is good so the females will be great breeders. I'm holding back the male to see compare to the sire.

I know everybody wants males but I consider females just as or more important then the males they do all the work and provide half the color.

Hey Dave, congrats on your kids. I've always thought sexing baby pardalis is quite easy. If you can get some good side-profile shots with the tail extended backwards and the vent area visible we should be able to tell you what sexes they all are.

Thanks, I'll certainly take you up on that offer! I'll get some up as soon as I have some daylight (I work 12 hour shifts). This is my first clutch ever, so I'm not too good at sexing. The one just seems obvious due to coloration and size.
