My Guy is in Trouble

Rule.of thumb.
When in doubt, hold.off on feeding and go with some full natural outdoor Sunlight..
They use the Sun like very few creatures can imagine.
Let the Suns radiation do what it does.

Hands down, it's the best medicine when you have no clue what medicines are needed.

🙏 Good Luck to you!

This is not accurate advice for this situation... When you are dealing with a chameleon that is very underweight and showing extreme decline signs like this one was you don't hold off on feeding. When a cham declines like this it is most commonly linked to a parasite issue. Natural sun will not fix that and if the chameleon is not used to being outdoors you can actually throw them into a stress reaction. When a cham is dealing with an extreme parasite issue like this one was the last thing you want to do is add more stress as it can further compromise their immune system.

I don't suggest taking it for a walk in the park.
Natural Sunlight is the best support for an immune system in decline.

All the vitamins and food in the world mean nothing if it can't process and metabolise the ingredients.
Heat lamps and UVB bulbs just do not do what the Sun does.

The environment that caused the issue is not going to be the solution to the issue.

Parasites are normal.
Having an overload of parasites the chameleon can't fight off is not normal, and usually not caused by an infected bug but exaggerated by a subpar immune system.

"Stress" is often mitigated by the human.
A safe and effective outdoor place to go for a few hours in Natural Sun light to bask and digest is often part of the prescription.

Im not recommending starving it until it's healthy.
I'm saying get fresh bugs, fresh dandelion and collards, wait a day and feed him outside to digest in Natural Sun.
"Hold off on Feeding" means replan how and what your feeding to your chameleon Including how it digests it's food.

You are newer to the forum and it is great that you want to help people by providing feedback. When you provide feedback especially in health threads you have to be correct and very clear in what you are recommending because it wont just be one person reading your feedback it will be many for years to come that are searching the forum for info for their situation.

When you give feedback especially in a situation like this you have to be specific. By saying Hold off on feeding... someone will interpret it as just that and not feed their chameleon.

Chameleons can not fight off all parasites. Some types do overload the system and take the chameleon down. It does not matter how wonderful their immune system is. This is why getting a yearly fecal test done is recommended.

The sun will not cure parasites and moving a chameleon to an outdoor space no matter how perfectly set up can cause stress if it has never been in that space before.

Yes, I am newish to this forum.
I understand when you say to be cautious commenting on Health Clinic Threads.
That parts fair.

I didn't realize this was the Health Clinic threads.
For that apologize and agree, wording matters here.
I thought this was General Discussion, and didn't mean any harm.
🙏
Just my two cents to promote Natural Sunlight for digestion and an immuno-boost, in conjunction with a prescription, and a fresh "Known to be Safe" feeder.
I agree Sunlight is not at all a Pesticide.

Even though I avoided this discussion, I am very glad that you have posted this disclaimer (for lack of a better word). We all do need to be very cautious of what we post as we never know who may be reading or how they interpret things.
I am all for fresh air and sunshine for all living beings…as long as they tolerate it. My chams totally freak out on the very short 30’ trip thru the house and will even leap from my hands in panic. :(
