My free range

So I wanted to start a thread on this as I have this free range and it's not completely done yet. I am still putting work into it and I would love to hear ideas and thoughts of what to improve on and such. I have 1 basking spot on the tree should I make another somewhere?

Id figure out how to mount something to the basking light cord so they dont walk up it. Min spends 25% of its time on top of the florescent fixture because its so high and warm. Yours will climb up and any all cords.

Yes I will be posting an updated pic tomorrow sorry I probably should have mentioned that those cords are all out of it and taped to the wall behind painters plastic tacked into the wall to make the walls not get water on them.

My suggestion is to make the basking spot bigger . As in, put one bigger hotter bulb in with lower perches / one smaller basking spot with lower wattage . Hang lots of plants and horizontal perches . If that makes sense
I use screen to enclose anything I don't want my cham on then I cover it with branches and vines so he can climb on it . I bend it, staple it to the ceiling My rule is anything that's exposed has to be safe . I have a screened in enclosure for my lights ; not my cham haha

Hmmm not quit sure what you mean by it? Do you have pics or a better explanation lol

Yah I'm bad at explaining myself . I would hang two hot spots one a bit hotter then thenter other ie: 1- 75 watt halogen - hang from ceiling about 10ish inches from desired basking spot and 1-60 watt house bulb 6ish inches from another basking spot . Make them both on the "hot side" - close together but not effecting each others temperatures . I would have some horizontal perches to bask on not just the plants ( plants absorb heat - less heat more time basking) I live in cold ass Canada so heat is always a priority for us. It's also important to keep those live plants as it really helps with humidity ( it does for me anyway) I was given my cham and I couldn't imagine putting it in a cage ( especially the ones they tried to sell me at the pet store ) I made a cham home and he's free to go where ever he pleases ( within his free range home - he can't get to the floor to go anywhere else haha) I struggle with maintaining consistant humidity levels but I belive he's happier a bit dry then in a tiny glass box
It's all trial an error and it depends where in the world you live on the appropriate husbandry for your lizard . I've always wished I could make a huge screened in cage for summer but even then it's to cold 350 days of the year hahaha- good luck though I wish you the best and I adore you for making a cage free home

I would love to do free ranging 24/7 too, at the moment I have too many animals to make it safe for my chams in the house. when I move I plan on making an outside green house kind of thing for them. But also with my current two... I think the only one I could possibly trust on a free range (and I would have to set it up like Jannb does for her older and disabled chams) would be Hope my jackson. Sadly unless Ryker shows huge improvements with his eyes, I would not feel safe free ranging him 24/7. But I definitely hope to do it with future chameleons rescues and non-rescues. So excited for you @joshuadh2310

How are you handling misting and humidity? I'd be afraid that the moisture to create the environment needed would be bad for the walls, flooring etc.

Looks nice, but since I have dogs, this would not work for me in the current location I keep my Cham.

I have 2 double nozzle misters setup on it 2 go towards the tree and then 2 go to the pothos hanging. my girl went over to the window about 4 hours ago and has been looking out ever since lol. might close the blinds so she decent chill there anymore.

i know lol i need to get the painters plastic up on the walls just so she can't get to the cords anymore. even though she has show no interest in the cords on the wall.

So much to watch outside when you are a chameleon. I would be interested in seeing the outside world to, as long as I was safely inside there is nothing to be worried about getting me and I can just relax and watch the world go by. Kind of like TV XD. When you actually take them outside they are a bit more paranoid and nervous, and it can take them quite a while to settle down.

exactly! lol but sadly the window she is at doesn't have much of a view lol.
