My Chameleon Says It’s Their Turn to Shine

Hello all,

after lurcking around for some time, my chameleon demanded that he get introduced here, too.

So here he is: Fridolyn

The breeder told us, he was born at the 1st of May 2026, so is today around 5,5 month old, around 30cm with tail. At the beginning it seemed he could eat all day long (he was kept in one gaze with all his brothers, so I doubt, he got enough food), but now he is at around 5-6 crickets and 3-4 grasshopper. Depending on the order, if he gets the hopper first, he refused the crickets and waits for the next hopper. 🤷‍♂️

We bought him a ZOO Med Repti Breeze 60x60x120cm (for extensibility) and wanted to have plants with soil inside to hide but don't want to "steal" height. So we bought a 60x60x40cm pot for the soil to put the terrarium on top. From the beginning he picks the food from our hands, and although he is a very shy guy he climbs on the hand when the greed overtake his shyness (then he is surprised, why he is suddenly sitting on the hand).

He hates water, regardless if it's the dripper or from a pipette or from the misting (we do 15 minutes before lights on for 3 minutes, 30 minutes after lights off 3 minutes and during the day (around 3pm) 2minutes). As we read a lot of positive stuff about humidifier, we're looking for that, too. If someone can look if his eyes are ok, a feedback would be really appreciated.

His most favorite spot is at the basking zone. Although I read that a normal behavior is like several 30 minutes but he is more like 3-4h, not sure if this is an issue, I think (and hope) the temperature is not too low.

After basking he sometimes leaves the terrarium climbing the tree beside the terrarium (a Dracaena tree) and after around an hour he climbs back and is basking again. He completely ignores the Focus Benjamina inside the terrarium, so we thought to put in a Dracaena inside, too...which is also totally ignored again 🤷‍♂️ He loves the vine leafs, though. Eats them and likes to climb the thin branches.

One time he got angry not sure, what the reason was, as we saw it from far away:

We have a Solar Raptor 70 Watt spot light, auto misting system and a self-made dripper.

Happy to be here and Hello to everyone.

Hi and welcome to you and Fridolyn. So very glad to meet you. 🙂 Fridolyn is a very beautiful and healthy looking young man. Your humidity level at 43% is perfect. Regarding using a humidifier or fogger, this is done at night but only if your temps are below at least 21c. I do notice that the temp is a bit too high. Ideally, basking temp for an adult male should be 29c. From looking at my chameleons, they don’t seem to have any particular basking times. I have two that I almost never see basking, one which almost never leaves his basking area and a couple of other variations. I love that he has a free range area and it sounds like he can access it anytime he wants. 💗
