Nope, not a prolapsed hemipene but a large sperm plug. Sexually mature male chameleons form an exudate of sperm in the hemipenes and this is normally expelled during defecation. In cases where these aren't expelled normally sperm or seminal plugs then occur and these look like a small lump of dried feces at the corner(s) of the vent. If these are not removed they continue to build up and may cause some discomfort. Soaking the chameleon in a warm bath will help soften the material and may help the chameleon to push them out on their own. Hardened or enlarged plugs should be seen by a veterinarian for removal as damage to sensitive tissue can occur.

Wow Trace, those are really large sperm plugs!! I've never seen such big ones on my panthers, on the other hand, I've never seen a male prolapse both hemipenes, and it looks like he's got some on both sides. The reddish coloring would alarm me a bit though.

Trace, are you sure that's a sperm plug? I've never seen any that big with my boys.

They can get pretty big and dark coloured. Bear in mind it looks like the OP is using a red heat bulb and the vent area is in shadow so they are potentially darker than they might be. They will form on both sides. I pulled these bad boys out of a Trioceros cristatus once.

Obviously, if the OP is unsure, a trip to see a professional is warranted.
