our mixture is mostly play sand, but it holds a good cave, its also got coco husk in it.. Will update in a bit :)

This is my first time having her lay eggs :p

She is in a hole, about 6 inches down and 4-5 inches to the side, shes making a cave, i made sure i made NO sound.. and looks like shes making sorta a chamber for eggs to lay? Very cool!!! when i went in i heard scratching at the bucket. and... shes just diggin deep :p

any idea how long it takes to lay eggs? its 9:00 here. shes taken a big chunk of dirt out of her hole.. she is a 6.5 month female veiled... Thanks

I am SOOOO Nervous, this is my first time, alls i can think about is her cave caving in and stuff :( Very nervous...

Don't be too worried, as long as you did the mixture right it should hold!

Omg, theres so many differant mixtures... mines just a 6 gallon bucket of beach sand and a bunch of coconut husk, with water. theres a layer of beach sand on the top, and bottom, in the middle its a mix. it held a good tunnel when i tested it (Its like beach sand holds a sandcastle) really well.

So nervous though, ugh i know itll get better after my first time though :p

Im bout to become and unfertilized father Hehehe :D

Be careful as you continue to check because as she lays she will have her head poking out most likely and they do not like to be seen and will often abandon their hole.

Ok i am going to stop checking, shes way in the hole now, and i belive shes about to lay..

Any time limit usually for laying? i know they can take hours digging but like, how long to actually lay the eggs and burry the hole approx?

My girls have been different. Some take a break after the work that they did digging the hole. I would check back in an hour maybe a little less if you are really impatient. If the eggs sit in there for fifteen minutes they will be fine. I have had females lay over night. It shouldn't be much longer now if she is a ways down in her laying pot.

Hi Levi
I know how you feel. She's going to take awhile. Leave a dim night-light on and go to bed, check on her in the morning.

:)

Thanks sandra... what type of dim light, i dont have a lamp in my room, should i leave the uvb on? her cage is in my room, i think ill stay up to 11:00 - 11:30... just to be sure haha

Anyways... if i leave the uvb on it leaves a lil bit of light going down, pretty dim, and she has branches to climb under... should i go in now and turn it on? or wait a while til i think shes done laying?

Thanks sandra!

And btw if i didnt say, there infertile.

My female Veiled alwys seemed to lay in the middle of the night. I just left her cage lights on, got up at 3AM-noticed she was done, gave her a good water, and turned her lights off 30 minutes later. It won't hurt to leave her cage lights on if she is still in the hole.

Thanks julirs. i geuss i could turn the lights on... its been a good 30 mins since she dug her hole... think it alright if i go in there?

thanks

p.s 3 am!!!? Thats a bit early for me ;)

Dont worry about it. They figure it out fine without a lot of light. I never leave the main lights on my girls. I do usually leave a little night light on. The night light in my mind simulates a moon and the stars, which is all they have to go by in nature. If you want to turn the UVB light back on, or a small lamp in the room, it wont hurt. Wont hurt if you leave it off either, in my opinion.

You might be up all night worrying about her anyhow, so you may as well have a reading lamp on while you lay there sleepless ;) maybe you can read a magazine

I shouldnt make fun - Im not trying to make fun of you, but rather hoping to make you laugh and relax.

I think ill put a lil tiny lamp on in my room, with a fish tank light instead of normal bulb, keeps it really quite dim.

Hahahaha sandra, believe me, i dont take anything offensive, dont worry about 'making fun' haha you made melaugh ;)

Kiddin.

I will read, will start reading 'A walk in the woods' By bill bryson.

Read it before, really good book i reccomend it, sorry bout my crude humor :p trying to get her off my mind hahaha

Is it possible that without a light maybe she would move around too much trying to find her way out of a hole, shed bump it to hard itd collapse?

Plus, i was trying to find out, can chameleons see in the dark?

Sorry for TRIPLE posting.

I am going to bed to read. and will be back soon most likely.. :p Got a lil lamp in there with a fish tank bulb making it rather dim. and... hope she does ok :)
