My Baby Cham's Enclosure Starting to Come Together!

As the title says, my little Cham's enclosure is finally starting to look like a Cham cage, lol!:) Just went out and picked up some of the final accessories and I think it's ready for a little baby to call it home. Again, the dish a the bottom is for catching extra dripage from the dripper. :D

This looks very nice for your new cham! You can also put some old newspapers on the bottom, so it can soak up any excess water from misting or from the dripper, and can be replaced for new ones every day or two days.

looks nice Gabbie:)

JMHO- put alot more branches in there bboth vertically and horizontally, and do u have a uvb 5.0 linear tube?....other than that it looks good or a baby cham

I went to LLL Reptiles yesterday and picked up a 100 watt Powersun UV Bulb. It is for both a warmth and UVB bulb. This is what the guy working there told me they used for their Cham's and is what he recommended to me. It made sense to me and do like that I don't have to use 2 different bulbs. I don't know if I can fit anymore vines in there but i'll try, lol! I had to trim down my ficus quite a bit to fit the cage. = / I should have just bought a smaller one.:

it means just my honest opinion! You might want to think twice about getting that bulb. There is another thread going on here right now and there is a lady that has a baby and she is having problems with her cham closing his eyes and is pretty sure it is the powersun bulb you are talking about. Maybe not all chams are sensitive to it as there is one guy who says he uses them to be cautious cause they put out alot of uvb. The Reptisun 5.0's are about full proof!!!

Oh and I dont' know what JHMO means, lol!

And im sorry to say this, but you are wrong....the 100 watt powersun...will burn your cham to a crisp...it was meant for desert high heat tolerant animals....please send it back..and dont always believe what people to tell from marketing business......they can make mistakes....and this guy did .....you need one heat bulb about 60-75 watts for heat and ANOTHER for uvb-reptisun 5.0 linear tube....this is recommended.....the 100 watt is too hot and the uvb maybe to muchh for your cham...please take it back and get the bulbs i said.....if you want to care for a cham...then do it right and dont cut corners or you will likely have the same result as charles but with your own hands....and i dont want that to happen.....many people made mistakes , even minor ones that caused the death of the cham....even me.....so im only trying to lookout for you........

Ace did you read the thread I posted about the powersun? I agree with you! Use the Reptisun! Ya know the old saying...if it ain't broke then don't fix it!!!

Yes that is what I have been reading. He seemed like a very knowledgable guy and he was a HUGE help in answering all of my questions. He didn't try and sell me things I didn't need. Hm, i'll be very careful with it, it cost me almost 40 dollars but if I do have problems I already have a hood to accomidate a long type of bulb. Now that I remember, it already had a bulb when it was given to me I belive it said Repti Vite on the bulb, i'll check it out in a bit. As for the Reptisun, I'll be sure and not set it right on top of the screen and i'll let it hover a few inches off of it.:)

Ok, i'll go back and get the other kind. It's quite a drive but i'll make sure and get one before I actually bring the little one home. Thank you!:)

thats how you know he was a good salesman:p...lol

trust me...get your money back if possible or sell it to someone....but i feel dont try the powersun if something will happen,...cuz i bet in a ew weeks the cham will close eyes....which is bad.......you are starting out so well...dont riun it.....reptisun ASAP......dont b the ignorant people (like me) that felt they knew wat they were doing and then BAM,,,messed up, on something that could of been easlily preventable....i want you to have a great start in cham keeping....so come on....like the NIKE slogan "JUST DO IT"

I hope I can get my money back or at least get store credit. I already had the 5.0 tube light in my hand ready to buy everything and he told me to take the Reptisun. He was so NICE, why? Lol! I worked at Hot Topic for a few months, I know how to get people, this time they got me. Lol! Ok, like I said, i'll make sure and take it back.

I REALLY don't want anything to happen and as you know of course, yes I had a TERRIBLE experience with my first Cham and don't want a repeat. I'm just trying to do what's right and sometimes it's hard with so many different opinions out there.

The bulb I have in my light hood is a duro-lite, Vita-Lite 15 watt pre-heat trigger start. I don't know what that is, anyone know? Also, I have a 75 watt basking light, is that ok to use if I pull it off of the screen enough?

Make sure that temps are correct for the age that the cham. is. Lowes has a great digital temp and humidity gauge for around $14.

The baby I have in mind right now is 3 months old. I picked up a Zilla digital thermometer/hygrometer, I just need to figure out how to work it, lol! I set the time but i'm going to go monkey around with it later tonight.

powersun vs. reptisun

soooo, though i'm not disagreeing with everyone making the reptisun recommendation....i am, though, going to say that if you set it up properly, the powersuns CAN be used without burning them and do emit a high percentage of uvb and can be used for both....it's just knowing how to set it up and making sure your temps are appropriate and there's a good gradient....powersuns are actually even recommended by some reptile vets for chams, not just the desert reps.

however, the best argument that i have heard for one vs. the other....is that the powersuns lose percentage of output much much faster than the reptisuns and the reptisuns will last longer with a high percentage of output. (tested and tried by kammerflage and a few other breeders and therefore more recommended...) another argument for the 2 bulbs is also a money saver in the long run...depending on your ambient temps.... you could arguably spend less on your electric bills the reptisun and say a 40-60 watt household bulb vs. the 100w powersun.

the hoods at LLL are not terribly pricey, and i'm sure they'd exchange it for a store credit if you went back.

not trying to ruffle any feathers or be argumentative....just not wanting to be an extremist one way or the other and from experience and discussion with other cham keepers, sharing..... the majority of users on the forums prefer the reptisun and for good reasons......but the powersun "can" be used if used appropriately and replaced more frequently

oic...thx for the info....and i understand where you are coming from..the thing is that...i feel in my opnion that more experienced keepers could use the powersun, while its just better for new keepers to start with what works and has no problems:)

Hmmm... Lol! I already have a hood for the light bulb and would only need to grab the bulb for it and they are about 20 bucks. I also have a few extra lamps and have a 75 watt basking bulb. I'm confused...:)

definitely a good point. :D
certainly wouldn't argue that as a good recommendation. like i said, the selling point for me and changing ours over was the percentage and output argument. :D

I see the supplements in your pic too. Are those the only 2 you have? You are only missing one more which is pretty important and that would be some Cal without D3 that you will want to use at every feeding. The 2 in the picture are going to be used once every other week or 2 times a month.

I use the sticky tongues like you only mine is the outdoor formula without D3 at every feeding.
