Mulberry Chow - help please!

My bag of powdered chow arrived today. I got an instruction sheet with it to make the whole lot up in one go using the microwave. I was actually hoping that I could just mix up a little at a time as needed (like mixing up crested gecko diet) rather than make it all at once! Is it possible to make it up little by little or do I have to make one large lot?

That is why I liked messing with the cups only. Are you raising your own silkworms?

Hi miss lily, I just mixed up 1/2bag. You can mix as you go, just figure out the water to powder ratio. It is better that way, it lasts longer, if your not going to use the whole thing in a month.:):)

:D I am, yes! It's very exciting - I have never done it before. I had moths last year that mated and laid eggs, which I then put into diapause in the fridge until a month ago.

How do you make yours up? Do you use boiling water or cold water? What ratio do you use? My maths is hopeless, lol!

Boiling water for sure.

According to Mulberry Farms, 1/2 lb of their chow is 24 ounces and needs to be mixed with 3 cups of boiling water. 3 cups = 24 ounces, so that says that the ratio of chow to water is 1:1.

Hi miss Lily, sorry I had a power outage yesterday. I have measured the powder in a 1/2 lb bag and it is 14 oz. So you can put 7 oz of powder to 12 oz water or if you want less 3 1/2 oz of powder to 6 oz of water. Mix it with hot tap water and a butter knife until there is no powder left then put plastic over and microwave for a few min until it boils, stir it then let it cool down then press the plastic to the top of chow and store in airtight container. Peel back plastic to serve your chow, then put it back over when done. Hope this helps!:). I believe the 24 oz that shenzi is referring to is the water recommendation to mix with a 1/2 pd of chow, easy enough mistake to make.

I would mix it a little hot tap water first till the powder was gone then just add the boiling water, that should be fine

Just went through this myself yesterday. Got half pound of dry chow and didn't want to mix it all up.

Instructions say 2 cups chow = 1/2 lb, and 3 cups of water.

So I worked it out to 1/2 cup of chow and 3/4 cup of water.

Used hot tap water, boiled it in the microwave, covered it and put it in the fridge for an hour, and it worked perfect.

Goodluck!

yes of course.
I put a few heaped spoonfuls into a bowl, pour boiling water in to make a paste = done. Repeat as needed. never have more than you need, make it up as needed. Since I boil water daily for my morning tea, Im not even wasting energy. :)

Thank you Sandra! That is EXACTLY how I was hoping to do things!:D
