I have read lots of threads on this subject and have decided to put him in a shoe box with paper towels on the bottom and some holes punched in the top for air flow, is this ok?

My main reason for this thread is actually getting him out of his cage. I've had Isambard for nearly a year and have rarely held him. I'm not really that touchy feely when it comes animals which is one of the many reasons I chose a chameleon for a pet. He's not all that aggressive but he can certainly get angry and clearly prefers not to be held. I've heard that placing something like a tea towel over them stresses them at first but calms them down, this way i'd be able to take him out without trying to coax him out the cage and making him more angry, what do you suggest?

You could use a smaller cage, but putting him in a box may be less stressful - they tend to fall asleep in the dark. Do you have far to travel? He will probably sleep all the way in a box, then you can have his cage set up and ready to put him straight back into.

That's the plan, it's about a 3hour drive I have to go on. It's more the getting him out of the cage that I have the concern with.

You might entice him out of his current cage using a branch and food.

If you take him out while he is asleep, even put the towel over him as he sleep then gently gently remove him, he may stress less than if he were wide awake.

Wear gloves if you are uncomfortable handling him or if he may bite.
