why is this? like a dog when it opens its mouth when its to hot? i pushed up the basking light which was 94, and is starting to cool down. its a male veiled around 3 to 4 months old. any comments would be good, thanks!

I would back the basking spot up to around 87 or so for a chameleon that young. They aren't great at regulating heat when they are small.

The open mouth while basking is completely normal though. This often means that they are too hot. They open their mouth to release heat.

I realize that this is normal to dispurse heat but my 2 year old male veiled seems to always gape with his mouth open when I clean his enclosure he stops,Im sure it has nothing to do with anything I just wanted to share buddy's weird behavior.:)
