Mothzilla

I caught a moth that is almost the size of my hand. I've named it Mothra or Mothzilla. Anyone know if all moths are safe to feed? I know brown ones are, I can't get this one to hold still long enough to get a look at it much less take a pic.

Okay, I rechecked and it's about 3-4 inches long, I exaggerated a bit but it seemed bigger while catching it. Here's the pic.

I have no idea if those are safe to feed to a chameleon. They look like the large moths we have around here (I do not see them very often). I guess I am wondering why you want to feed it to your cham. Seems like with all of the alternatives which are proven to be safe, there is little advantage. Then again, varied diets are always nice.

Short answer- not a clue.

Awake? No, need more coffee.

Good day to you now- I am off to get caffeinated!

it's pretty big i wouldn't feed it

Well, you could chop it up and make a milkshake out of it but it seems that would spoil the fun!

[Edit]

Oh wait, she named it! She officially cannot feed it to something! It has a name!

Problem solved.

AllFallDown,
Saving the world one giant moth at a time!

Thanks Trillian, and as to AllFallDown, why do you feed things other than crickets? For a varied diet. It's nice to give him a treat once in awhile, and this moth is not too big for Bobo, he loves moths. This one is bound to get his attention too, the most spazzy moth I have ever seen.

Well I guess I can respect that reasoning.

I wouldn't feel safe telling you one way or the other, insect identification I can do, but safety I'm new at. There are a few threads on the forum where people have fed similar types of sphinx moths to their chameleons, and actually hornworms turn into a type of sphinx moth too.

Mothzilla is dead, but Bobo is very happy. Not even going to try the other moths I find outside, their wingspan is about as big as my mom's hand and their bodies are way too thick. Those ones can live.
