Hi I am thinking about getting a male and female jacksons chameleon. I have been doing all my research and everything says they should be by themselfs but was at my local pet shop and they have about 6 in one cage? is it ok to keep the male and female together when i get them?

when they are jounger they can be in the same cage as multipule's some store put them all together so they dont have to set up 10+ cages one for each just for them to save space.

iv heard people keeping them together but its when they are free ranged or a HUGE cage with multipul basking and uvb bulbs so they dont fight for terretory

but im not that expierienced in jacksons but i wouldnt recomend it

EDIT: i would just get another cage just to play it safe

Young Jacksons can be housed together, and when I say young, I mean up to about 3-4 months of age and then they should be seperated to individual cages. You can keep them in small groups of 5-6 per 18"x18"x36" cage. But at 3-4 months you should seperate them. I don't recommend keeping a male and female together that are older than 4 months. I placed my male Jackson in with my females this weekend and I had to stand there and break them up. The female was not happy about him being in there and the male was behaving very aggressively. I do keep female Jacksons together and they get along fine, just has to be a very well planted, roomy cage. I don't recommend keeping males with females. Even if you did and they seemed to be O.K. with it, you can't sit there and referee them 24/7, and eventually you would need 2 cages when the female became gravid, so it's best you go ahead and get 2 cages now, because you'd need them in the long run anyway.

I constantly have to jap on this local pet store that has 3 huge 8months+ jacksons with a few baby guys. It amost scared me at first. Like OMG they're gonna have a huge dinner! Might as well dust the litte guy! Oh wait, you **** don't dust your feeders do you! Lol yeah, they hate me. They never have crickets for me, wonder why =D

Even with doing the whole... cohabitating cham's fun... it is SEVERELY recommended that you know how your cham is first. Pretty much, any signs of not eating... not drinking... not basking... lethargic behavior... could be attributed to dominance of one over the other. Any sort of aggression is pretty much a sign that you need seperate cages. Also, before you can even start considering housing two you need to be able to know for sure they will allow it... best way to do that is to have an equal ground, one where they both have yet to explore, and see how they react while having seperate cages aside just in case.

ok thanks guys thats what i thought as far as them being younger. the pet store by my house has all males together no females and their about 6 inches. But I will keep them in different cages is it good to have at least 2 females? or just better to have one in their own cage?

It is safest to have one per cage. Male or female, one per cage.
