Monty's Rainbow!

Yesterday the sun was shining through the window and when I opened Monty's viv, the light shone through the glass and created a pretty rainbow on his little body! It was so cute and he looked lovely! Of course, out came my camera to capture it, lol! :D He is 15 weeks old now and I love him to bits! :D

I must also share this really cute sleepy pic too! It took me ages to find him the other night and eventually I found him right at the front hidden in his leaves, bless him! :D

You have been away almost forever, welcome back, we missed you.
Oh Tiff's little Monty is a jackson xanth.

Thanks Laurie, it`s great to be back :) I just discovered Camille and Tommy have left us for Rainbow bridge and am totally gutted. Monty looks just adorable though bless him. I hope your little ones are doing well.

It's great to see you back, Sally! You have missed so much! I got Monty on 23rd October, and like Laurie said he is a Jackson Xantholophus. He is now 15 weeks old and I've had him for 8 weeks now! He has taken some getting used to what with him being so small, and I have also discovered what a pain fruit flies can be, lol! He weighed 3.6g last Tuesday and he is gaining weight steadily since his appetite has picked up and he will now eat crickets and silkworms. These guys grow so much more slowly than Veileds so at least I get to enjoy his 'babyness' for longer!:D

Sadly, a week after Monty arrived, I had to have my dear old Tommy put to sleep. He developed a lump on his side which I suspect was something to do with his liver, and although the vet felt around it he didn't think there was anything there. He agreed to xray Tommy and he found a tumour growing on his liver and he also had arthritis in at least one joint. We knew he didn't have long left as he was barely moving about in his viv. I had to make the worst decision you can ever be faced with, and the vet said he could operate to see what the lump was but it wouldn't have helped or bought us more time, so I did the only thing I could do. I asked the vet to put him to sleep while he was there. I had left him with the vets in the morning to wait for xrays after the morning surgery closed and the hardest part to deal with is the fact that I didn't get to say goodbye to him. That broke my heart, but I knew I had to end his pain. He was the sweetest boy ever despite all he'd been through in his 4 short years.:(

always great to see more pics of Monty. I hope you and everyone here on this forum have a great holliday and enjoy your pets as much as I do.

oh, and yeah Tiff, fruitflys are a pain in the rear. but just think of how much extra protien you are eating in your sleep...or drinking in your afternoon tea. :p

Very funny Harry! I am so careful, but they still get all over the place! Hopefully he won't need them for too much longer! I also have 250 (but it seems like way more) silkworms hatch all at once the other day! Food aplenty at my house, lol! Good job Monty likes silkworms cos that's what he and Amy have got for Christmas! I just didn't expect them to hatch all at once as the tub was in a cool dark cupboard!

Hi Tiff,
So glad Monty is doing so well he looks adorable in the pics, the rainbow one is beautiful. Pleased to here he has gained some weight for you im not sure if Tulisa has as my scales arnt that accurate under 5gr lol. Its been 2yrs since Nina was that tiny forgoten how slowly they do grow.
Keep the pics coming Tiff:)

Amazing picture Tiff, Monty looks so proud. :)

I can sympathise with the fruit flies. I didn't have any for ages when I really needed them and now I have loads, including the ones that escaped into the airing cupboard lol. How easy or difficult is it to hatch silkworms?

It is easy to hatch them, but not when they all hatch at once, lol! I just had 250 hatch all together! I put them in a dark cool cupboard thinking I could just incubate some as and when, but mother nature decided they should all hatch at once, lol! I have loads of them and they are a ton of work! The first few are now 2 weeks old and are just about big enough for Monty.

I don't think I have time for another ton of work. :(
