I got my first chamleleon yesterday! I've been researching and setting up the cage for almost a month. My new little guy was born on 6/2/11 and is a Jackson's.
Here is his cage:

He's so cute! You might want to add a few branchs at the top and in the middle though rather than at the bottom. He could use a basking branch as well :) but jacksons babies are the best IMO, look like little dinosaurs.

i agree a few horizontal highways would be great but OMG that baby is too cute for words. I will need lots more pictures as he grows. Lots of congratulations on getting him.

ahh what a cute itty bitty baby!!! he so small love the pics. but what thoms and laurie said you should put the branches about 4-6" down from the top. its cool cause when your cham is basking you can watch as he regulates his own heat. i really notice mine doing it now with their new cages and plants. your little guy is going to be happy and hiding and all that fun stuff. best of luck ask any questions you might have and imo i think jacksons are a good starter cham.

Congrats on your new little cham. Other than the options that were already mentioned he should be extremely happy in his new home.

I will fix the branches as soon as he is more settled in. I don't want to stress him out too much by moving stuff arounf (good idea?). I was having trouble getting the bracnhes to stay where I want them, I guess I will try using small wire or saftey pins to hold them in place.

Thanks for the nice comments

the more he settles in(cute lil male btw) the more its going to stress him to change it again..fix it now, so you wont have to keep changing stuff on him..

i use the small black plastic zip ties that walmart sells. you can get a big tube with several different sizes and i use the small ones to hold the vines in place i prefer the black ones cause they blend in with the screen your on a good way with your cham already. make sure you take weekly pics cause they can grow up fast!!!

I have a tube of different sized zip ties, but not sure what else inside the cage that I could secure them to. I will figure something out though :)

just do tie them to the screen I got a thread up in the enclosures i think its on the second page titled 2 new set ups i just circle them around the plant and once through it. just a quite bit of advice if and when you take out your cham when you put him back into his enclosure let the guy go on the ground so that way he can climb his own way back up to his favorite perches. I've had a couple times where i tried to let them back in their houses on the vines and they got to excited and took a fall. baby bones are fragile and they can break easily so better safe then sorry!!!:D

Oh wow - I can't believe I never saw a photo of a baby Jacksons until now! I wanted one before (because I want to keep every kind of chameleon I see:)), but Triceratops was always my favourite dinosaur - I have to get a baby Jacksons at some point!

That is some more good advice, thank you. I might have to take him out for a bit to move his branches around. I wasn't planning on taking him out anytime soon, but I guess I will have to.

He difinately looks like a dinosaur! Maybe I should name him "Dino" or something. Any ideas?

Hello,
concratulations, taht guy is really cute. You should increase the distance of the bulb, otherwise he might burn his feet while climbing at the fly-screen. What kind of bulb do you use?
You should also put more branches inside, especially horizontal ones because Chameleons like them the most, which should be very thin as he has very small feet at this age.
You may use fishing line to keep the branches and vines in place, it is very cheap and works perfectly, but you need to make sure that the branches/vines can not turn upside down as the chameleon walks across them.
Please excuse my bad english as i´m german

I will try to increase the distance of the bulb but I"m not sure how. I have nothing to mount it on. Any suggestions?
I am using a regular 40W incandescent bulb (on a dimmer b/c it was too hot at first) and a 5.0 UVB bulb.

I took the bendy branch that was at the bottom and moved it up to the top, I am holding it in place with saftey pins and it seem to be working. I never thought of fishing line, that would work well - if the saftey pins don't work out I will use fishing line.

Your english is good!
