Misting questions!

Hey guys, haven't checked in for a while.
Got another question for you all. I started to lower the humidity my humidifier puts out since my rooms been holding a lot of it and I mist both my male and female panthers down two or three times too. I just got one of those exo-terra heavy duty misters instead of my old spray bottle, so I'm really able to soak em down. I was wondering if I would even need a humidifier anymore if I'm soaking them twice a day with it. It seems to do well enough, and with a gecko and jungle carpet python that I spray daily too, I think I'm producing enough humidity. What do you guys think? Also, whats the best way to automate a misting system since my male is very picky about drinking and has become attached to the misting tip on both my spray bottle and my new mister? Would it be better to automate or to just keep spraying twice a day?

We can't really answer this without knowing your humidity level (right after you finish spraying and how low it gets between spraying sessions). How much and how often you need to spray or use the humidifier depends on the actual relative humidity (RH) present in your herp room or the cages. It doesn't have much to do with the TYPE of sprayer you use.

Knowing the RH will also help you decide if you need to automate or not.

Sorry, was just waiting for a responder before adding a ton of extra info. The regular humidity between mistings or the humidifier running is 40%. The humidifier and mister both raise the humidity to about 88% for the next half hour and then it starts to drop. I wanted to do an automated mister instead of humidifier because my guy has been somewhat dehydrated and only drinks straight from the pump mister/spray bottle. So I figured it would be better to have it automated so he can drink whenever or at least on a schedule instead of whenever I can notice he may be thirsty.

There are tons of timers available on the market. I would recommend the Mist King timer, it works great and has a battery back-up so if the power goes out you don't have to worry about reprogramming it. On top of that Marty (The Mist King) is a forum member and provides tons of help.
