Ok so for my mistking resivior I only have a 5/8" paddle drill bit, but it says to use a 9/16" hole for plastic containers. Will it be ok if I use a 5/8" hole or should I get a 9/16" paddle.

Ps. By plastic container I mean painters bucket.

You should buy the 9/16 bit. You don't need a paddle bit, any 9/16 drill bit would do the job.

Definitely use the recommended size. If the opening is too large you will definitely have issues with leaking.
