Miracle Gro on Plants

Im not sure that you can state I have no scientific evidence. You have no idea what papers on the subject I may have read. But Like I said, I have as much evidence as I require. If you require more, do a little reasearch for yourself :)
I dont see you providing any evidence that supports fertilizers being healthy to consume. So Im not sure why you are bashing those who feel it likely is not.

I hope you did not feel I "bashed" you or anyone here in this thread. I did not. I challenged Rocky to produce any reference to studies that showed harm from chemical fertilizers to animals. I really don't often find a need to savage anyone in this kind of forum, and if I did, you would know.

The OP has found his answers. Philosophies differ. Let it rest.

Thank you Sandra!

As noted, Pothos are hardy and forgiving....mine are in soil and both chameleons (separate cages) seem to prefer to poop over the plant....I view that as some level of fertilization...Unless the Pothoses start to show signs of failing, I won't be doing anything more for them than making sure they get water and letting the chameleons poop for them.

Im glad it was not your intent to sound they way I was reading your words.

I am actually interested in anything substantive you could point me to that indicated eating ferts is not unhealthy.

Milk? Like 2%? Do you have any info on this? Sounds like a great alternative ...

The second one is a bit more scientific and somewhat contradictory but in the end, it is agreed that milk will help plants grow.

I personally have been trying for about 3 months now and have noticed some mark-able growth and now mildew or bad smells at all.

This sounds like a fantastic alternative! Thanks for the links. So, watering down the milk is suggested. Is this what you do? I'm going to start doing this and monitor my plants for improvements. With Spring in the air, the plants should be waking up from their hibernation and be very hungry :)

Yes, definitely water it down. You know that last little bit at the end of a gallon that isn't really even a full gulp so you sit there for a second trying to figure out if you should drink it or just dump it? Well, take that, add water and you are good to go.

lol I've been in that predicament before. I appreciate the advice. Thanks :D

Ok true story from a couple years back.

I had a clutch of eggs from a bearded dragon.

I went to the usual lowes to buy a bag of perlite. Didn't pay much attention.

Got home.

But the eggs in the perlite for incubation. About 6 weeks later I noticed the perlite was *miracle grow* perlite with fertilizer in it. I had never seen fertilizer in perlite and so it caught me by surprise. I know- I guess I should have seen "miracle grow" but I just thought it was a brand name, not the ingredient.

I went right out to the various stores around here to get something without fertilizer in it. Couldn't find anything- miracle grow apparently has cornered the market on perlite at walmart, lowes, home depot, kmart, etc in our area. Finally a few days later found some at a mom and pop nursery quite a ways distance from my home.

Came home, switched the eggs into the new substrate for the remaining few weeks of incubation.

Held my breath.

Eggs finally all hatch successfully- 100% hatch rate.

I kept the group back for several months because I was making some picks for future breeders from this particular clutch.

Now the punchline- every last one of the little lizards ended up male.

Not a single female in the bunch.

I've never had that happen.

Either the odds of probability were beaten for whatever reason this one time which is possible. Or miracle grow worked a miracle on the sex of my baby dragons...

Which brings up my point- if your female lays eggs in the same pot your plant is in- miracle grow *might* not be the greatest thing to add to the soil. Maybe... Especially if she is going to lay pretty soon...
