Mini free range - so proud :D

so this isnt really about the "free range" so much as me being super exciting about my cham actually using it. - crappy pics at the end though!

basically maybe 5 or 6 days ago i sort of made a tree - i took the stand of a fan and then i put a medium sized branch into it and then i took some fake leaves and attached that to one of the lumbs and then i took a bendy vine and i filled in a few spaces. then i took a spare dome i had and put a bulb it and hung it over one of the taller branches.

so ive had this sitting near his cage the whole time and i ahve it connect with a sort of bendy cable thing (used to store cables and what not). i actually took him out and place him on the the little "tree" a couple days and then i would take him and put him back in the cage (the door is usually open when im in the room) - he started to really dig it a few days ago and then last night he just.. climbed on over by himself and climbed right back into his cage.

today i just saw him do it again except for he stayed a lot longer. man it was just.. so cool to see him actually doing something. waching him kind of scope out the spot and then go for it. its cool to just see him kind of.. basking out in the open. it was a really rewarding feeling i guess?

anyways, here are some super crappy pics but youll get the jist of it.

so here he is from today after he got up there by himself (i know you cant really see him but you can see his spot)

here is a sort of side shot where you can see the "vine" that he can travel on if he wants to. he has to travel probably like 2.5 feet or so across it.

and here is a shot of what it kind of looks like with out the cage in the background (he isnt on it in this shot)

thanks for looking. like i said this was more about me being happy he was using it willingly/ by himself more than the set up. i know its not very fancy - but i dont recall anyone else using a telescoping stand from a fan to make a tree! so maybe thatll give someone an idea. simple but effective. wanted to post this thread in general but it has to do with an enclosure of sorts so i wasnt sure

also, he has been traveling around his cage a bit more now too so thats pretty fun.

i just watced a couple or your vids from Youtube and i have a quik question what mister are you using? i must know :D

NVM LOL fail at looking

seriously man. it is awesome to see them more or less uncaged - i know they would be different outside but.. even just outside their wire cages when they are comfortable. love it.

and snipeusa - aquazamp with a misting nozzle in the back left corner and a raindome front off center. i cant recommend them enough, if you are in the market get an aquazamp. customer service is off the charts and the quality is great. if you dont have one already it will likely be the 2nd best purchase you make (second only to your chameleon). not to mention i got it in like 2 days!

i should also add that rain domes are pretty ideal for tight spaced free ranges as they are pretty easy to accurately drain (same for cages too - wont go all over your walls and whatnot)
yep. any other questions im more than happy to answer!

edit : i see you found out what im using. hahaha.

i did make a rain dome for my mist king..worked great..just cant deal with that much water on the floors (my tree is sooo big anywhere i put it it would miss the pot, witch would be great if it went right in, actually since i could change out to rockwool as a soil and go hydroponic, and whatever water the chams dont use the tree would suck it up)i actually had a plan of using a huge hydro drain table, and lift it a few inches off the ground so i could have my free range drained (pump, tube leading to out the window, and a timer)...

yeah, i guess if you have it over a plant with a lot of leaves it could bounce off, but it just depends situation to situation. i have mine kind of half hitting leaves and half not. when i had it right over the leaves the droplets would fly out but now i dont have a problem with it.

that sounds like itd be a really slick set up. i love your tree, id like a smaller version of that for my room and id give it a go for sure (i have a small room). if i had a window in my room i would definitely have something leading to it, that would make me feel a lot better.

ya thats my problem, i suppose i could thin out a circular section in the middle of the tree, but i do like how full it has grown over the years..i may think of somthing.

that must really suck to not have a window!!!.. i love the man cave feeling, but i need a window so i can lurk at weird neighbors..

i already want a bigger one, ive wanted to figure something out since ive seen so many people with free range type enclosures. at this point i almost wish i never bought a cage or upgraded my light fixture, i couldve bought supplies to build a nice little free range corner. ah. well. i was an uber n00b and its still nice to have that peace of mind that he isnt under the couch or something (for now)i see a better free range in the future for sure.
