Periodically I coil up all the tubing, nozzles, etc in the reservoir. Then using the pump, flush a 1:10 bleach to hot water solution through it followed by a rinse. I also flush a vinegar solution through it to get rid of hard water deposits.
I also run a low bleach solution through mine but also change out the hoses every few months. Take a section of hose you've used a while and cut it in half, lengthwise, and take a look. I'll have to run some vinegar next time. I hadn't thought of running it through the pump instead of just soaking nozzles in it.

Thank you! I'm glad to see others do flush their systems. Just wasn't 100% on if it had to be done. You can never be too safe even if they claim to keep "bugs" at bay.
I also use distilled water in my system and have not seen any sort of deposits in the hoses or nozzles yet.. I like using the distilled water over the tap water.. I have my own well and there is no chlorine in the water but there is calcium.. I sprayed my enclosure the first few times with tap water and it spotted up the glass something fierce since I have a glass one.. ever since then I've switched to distilled and haven't had a problem
I will probably end up doing a system flush once a month with a 1:10 bleach sol (just to be safe). I really want to invest in a reverse osmosis filter for some good old DI water Then I wont have any worries! I wish they werent so friggin' expensive!! I should have just "borrowed" a few gallons from my school lab to tie me over...hmm...maybe I will do just that.
If you want a great reverse osmosis system at a very low price, go to www.bulkreefsupply.com. Its a reef aquarium site, but its the best place to get a deal on a quality RO/DI unit.
