Mice

Did anyone ever fed their panther mice? Even once?
I heard somebody did! Very small ones to give him a boost!

Mice?

I've heard of some people giving their females (after laying a clutch) some pinkies - I don't think I'd recommend:confused: it - it's hard for them to digest and could become blocked..... anyone else?

A question to answer your question: What do you think, how often have chameleons in the wild the chance to eat a nest of young mice ? Yes, never. So why feed them ? Locuts are healthier than them and they are natural food source

If they did its not very beneficial. Pinkies dont have much calcium in them. A cpl of drops of liquid calcium would be better for a post laying female than a pinkie. I could see giving a gecko or two per year for variety. As other lizards would seem to be on their natural prey list. But I wouldnt give pinkies. I havent given any anoles or geckos for fear of parasites otherwise I'd give them a go. Only way I'd do it is if I raised my own feeder anoles/geckos.

I thought it was very weird! And I never will! I was just curious to know is somebody else ever did! I'll certainly stick on the bugs!

Eisentrauti is spot on. Pinkies are little blobs of fat and high protein, neither of which is good for chams. They don't have well-formed bones yet so they're not a source of calcium. It's not a natural food item. They may ocassionally eat a small lizard in the wild but in a recent dietary analysis of jackson chameleons found wild in Hawaii vertebrates made up like 1% of the diet. Feeding on vertebrates is not a natural thing and excessive animal protein may be harmful to the kidneys. You can provide a complete healthy diet through normal gutloading of normal invertebrate prey items. You say "to give it a boost" - well why does your cham need a boost? Is it running a marathon sometime soon? What part of its diet are you not addressing that it would need "a boost"? I know it wasn't your cham, but that's what I wonder when people say that.
