Mellers Emergency????

Major earlier looked maybe he was choking on something...he may have barfed up a silkworm as I see a partially chewed one on a leaf, then he seemed fine. Just now I looked at him and he has a very different coloring to him-and I am scared to death since I know there are Mellers "death" colors. Of course I took him out to feel his belly and I tried to look in his mouth-but he is fighting me-and for once he will not open his mouth????

Any ideas???

Here is the weird coloring...

I wouldn't call those death-colors, but I would assume that he isn't feel great. I don't think that color says anything about the severity of the problem, though. It could just be a bad worm.
What are his basking and ambient temps? If he's having digestive issues, he may not be able to get warm enough. Did he eat anything else? Has he pooped in the last few days?

I think he looks contrite for upchucking. ;) Don't know about colors Julie, just keep your eye on him (as if you aren't)

He is acting otherwise normal, and there are some nice poops from the past few days so I can rule out impaction. Maybe (let's hope) he is just pissed from the puking. Abient temps 73 basking spot 80.

I would just keep an eye on him, then. And make sure he's basking (I'm getting 'too cold' vibes off that picture, but that could just be me).

He is laying kind of "over" a branch-this is not looking good. I am going to try to look into his mouth. I AM STRESSED!

Melleri can be very stubborn about opening their mouth, as I'm sure you've noticed. It sometimes takes 2 hands... or 2 people.. They can be such squirmers.

If his mouth looks fine, I would put him on his basking spot and leave him alone for the rest of the day. If it was just something he ate then warmth and rest might be all he needs.

Good luck with the little guy!

I set him outside in a patch of sun-the temps are great. He seem to be doing OK. I am still hoping the puking just stressed him.

Hey Julirs,

I hope everything is ok with your cham and that it was just a bad worm. As far as getting Chameleons to open their mouths, all you have to do is take your index finger, and apply a bit of pressure on the top or the mouth at the end and stroke backwards towards his/her eyes.

I was told this by my vet since I have to feed my sick cham via syringe for now. I tried it on my 4 year old cham and it worked great. I hope it works the same for Melleri Chams since they have that horn.

Good Luck and all the best.

I just looked over at him and he took a poop-so impaction is definitely out-then he tossed his head around a bit, but I suspect that is because he saw me looking at him mid-poop! So far OK.
