this will be long...

i have noticed that my ambilobe has two basking spots....the vine is at 85 and the top of the schefflera is around 90...i know 90 is a little hot but i cant stop him from sitting up there....also i dont want to trim the plant cause i just started to grow into....no long term worries though because he gets his adult cage in half a month anayway....ps: he is a little over 5 months and 9 inches...including the tail.

Next

Can you over dose the chameleon on calcium??? i give it six days a week. i dust the heads of the 1 and a half inch silk worms heavily and leave the crix plain on the days he gets silks...on only crix days he gets around 12 of them and eats them all...they get dusted to the point that you can bearly see the white dust on them...all get dusted....so is this enough....can he have problems if i mabey dust the feeders a little harder???

Also dave from georgia bugs....i ordered a bag of cricket crack last sunday...i got 2nd day shipping and its still not here???? i know theres company complications, but i see your selling silk eggs currently....so when will my order get here??????????

next up... im getting the standered package from mist king and im going to use a small 3 gallon fish tank for the resivor....can i use a cheapo fish tank heater....its the on you plug in and then it just heats and heats till the waters like 90 degrees....ill have to test out the temps today.......what water temp should the resivore have...ill be misting for 5 mins in the morning 10 in the afternoon, and 10 in the evening.....i was thinking like 92 degrees???

wow this is long but one more thing...how do you tam down a 5 month old panther with a bad temperment....when i open the cage and get my hand in there to mist/clean/ect... he puffs up turns all bright colors and opens his mouth....if i get within a few inches he swings his head and attacks my hand...i dont want to handle him i just want him to not run away and such....also hand feeding was a no go for him.....reading about all these vields and panthers coming to your hsnd and enjoying attention every days makes me feel like my guy is the grinch...lol

okay thanks aload!!!

I'll go first.

Don't worry too much about the 90 degree basking spot. He is hanging out where he is most comfortable. Just make sure he is able to sit upright under the heat comfortably. If you see him hanging upside down all the time under the light, then your enclosure is too cold.

It is also possible to give too much calcium w/ D3. You should only be offering those supplements every other day, and the crickets should be lightly dusted. The symptoms of over-supplementing are more visible when they are adults. As always, your gut-load is very important and as he matures you'll want to rely less on supplements and more on diet.

The little attitude you see is common for sub-adult panthers. Between five months and eighteen months, they just seem to want to be left alone. But you'll notice that they start to get mellow as they mature. In my experience, once you handle them a few times they usually chill out. The first, second, and third time are usually the worst of it.

Hope this helps!
