Yes I would definitely switch to the linear 5.0 bulb for UV. Use it for 6 months and exchange it. Your gutload and dusting schedule is off as well. Dust lightly with plain calcium (no D3) each day, dust with calcium (with D3) about once a week, and dust with a herp multivitamin once a month. Gutload with dark leafy greens (not spinach or broccoli), fresh fruit including citrus, add in a fortified whole grain. Other ingredients that benefit include spirulina and bee pollen. I don't know what quality commercial gutloads you have available across the pond.

Hi Katie:

Please post of picture of your cham. Rounding of the bones in the front forearms are an obvious sign of MBD.

By the way your supplementing is a little off. You need a calcium witout D3 for daily use. You should use the one with D3 twice a month.

yeah i did some research and ive swapped it now waiting on the canopy to arrive on wednesday,
he was strong when i left last week - but ive returned and hes gone downhill i willl dust with the normal dust everyday now,

but my boyfriend loves treating him to wax worms could be possibly be overweight ?

is it possible to over load them with calcium?

He looks good. No MBD or obesity, yet. Just adjust the schedule and hook up that new light and he will be good to go.. :D

my boyfriends seems to think it might be because his skin is tight hes shedding right now as you can see but he is like walking on his elbows in abit freaked out about it! he was absoultly fine a week ago ! ill keep postign photos and will dust everyday - no more fatty wax worms for a week will see what hes like- also his new viv sould be ready to rock mid week :D ill keep you posted thanks guys

So hes now having everything dusted in normal calcium dust. Not eaten today . Weve updated his viv now will post pics soon. But if he does move his legs shake intensely . And he carnt support himself on front legs . I defiantly think hes getting weeker . He was amazingly active running around his viv but not anymore. His wee today was also brownish

weak and wobbly means that he can't get to his water as easily as before. that is probably the reason his urates are darkening. move his dripper so it drips right next to where he is perching and drip water down his nose until he drinks as many times a day as you can. hydration is most important for sick ones.

hopefully increasing his calcium now will take care of it but the vet could do x-rays to check bone density and if not good can give shots that get them better much faster.

too much d3 can be just as bad for them as too little. d3 two times a month should be enough for now unless the vet tells you differently.

keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Thank you. We have moved his dripper to his new favorite area. And weve increased his calcium. Fingers crossed its his lack of water . Otherwise vets if we dont see no improvement . Thanks.for all your helping comments

For gutloading check out Sandrachameleons blogs. I haven't been able to find any commercial ones that I would use so I made my own. However I have just found bug burger and am waiting for it to come, it was expensive.:D

Hey guys just a quick update . Rio is much better after the post about his water we moved the dripper and the shaking was gone in two days. He is loving his new enclosure and is super active thanks for all your help guys :)

Excessive D3 can poison chameleons, so it's possible that he is getting over the excessive vitamin D3 in his system. Here is a blog that goes into what each vitamin and mineral does in the body: http://muchadoaboutchameleons.blogspot.com/2012/03/chameleon-physiology-supplements.html

Too much vitamin D3 will lead to calcification of the soft tissues, like organs and muscles, so it's important not to give too much. Excessive calcium will also cause issues, so don't go over-board on how much you give, just be diligent about dusting all his feeders lightly with it every day while he's young.
