gravid jacksons ?

jackson's often arrive gravid (especially wc) because they have been co-mingled in the months prior to being shipped. as far as gravid coloration, she looks more stressed than gravid, and they can be gravid and display minimal coloration, she looks a little edemic, it might be in your interest to fill out the help form and provide better pics. meanwhile if you have a digital scale, it would be a good idea to do a weekly weighing of her. here is a recent thread on jacksons gravid coloration showing two diffferent gravid jacksons, in two different colorations. https://www.chameleonforums.com/expect-babies-soon-36311/index4.html jmo

Is that her cage in the background? It looks so bare! Poor thing is probably stressed too because she can't find a place to hide. I'd go to a home depot or lowe's first thing in the morning and get her some safe plants, wash them, and fill her cage with plants and branches.

That what i was going to say. It looks more like a bird cage. No offense Cavin. Also what kind of lighting, supplements, feeders and such do you use. Like Olimpia said. Go out and buy some live plants. You dont need a laying bin as Jackson of course give live birth.

I have to agree with everyone else. That cage is pathetic. It doesn't even look like you have any lighting at all on the top.

Yes, we just want to help you and your cham be her happiest and healthiest, so sorry if at times it sounds like we're being mean.

It would useful if you filled out the "ask for help form" in the health section, so we can help you correct anything. In the meantime, I would leave her in her cage and not touch her anymore for a while. Maybe even put a blanket or towel over the top of the cage so she doesn't see you, and feels like she's hidden. If she is going to give birth she's going to need her privacy, since chams are very secretive animals to begin with, and that's a vulnerable time for females.

Edit. Until you get the plants - do something to make her comfortable until you get plants and then she'll go off and find a good hiding spot. My male Jackson's is very secretive half of the day, so his cage is just bursting at the seams with plants. I have photos of his enclosure in an album on my profile, if you want an example.

I know the cage is a big issue. But no one has mentioned getting a fecal on her she could be loaded w parasites. Def fill out the help form.

Yea i agree. We are here to help you. We don't want you to make a post and say the Jackson pair has passed away:( we really want you to succeed in this hobby. We all were horrible in the beginning but that's why you join this forum.

husbandry needed

i will be glad to give you a hand (just vm or pm me), im assuming the cage in view is the cage you are keeping her in ?. but if thats the case, and you dont learn/change some husbandry soon, that cham will be irreversably damaged or dead within 2 months. jmo

Well...I know it's late in the evening, but if there's going to be a delay in getting plants, does he have other options for providing cover in the short term? (I'm just guessing he can't jump into the car and run down to the store to grab stuff).

I'm thinking he can create some makeshift vines with twine or even doubled up string (tie a knot every few inches. For doubled up string, it will hold them together, for both that and twine it will provide better grip), hang those from the ceiling so they hit that big branch.

But the chameleon needs places to go to feel safe.

Cavin, are there any plastic plants in the house you can commandeer? Maybe stick part on each side a few inches above the branch?

Let them know that your chams will probably die if they're subjected to too much stress for long periods of time. And having them out in the open like that with no where to hide is doing just that. Even if you can run down to a dollar store and get lots of fake leaves, that would be better than leaving her in there with just two sticks.

Your brother is 15? Does he have any friends with a drivers license that could give you a ride to and from a home depot/lowe's?

So, have you got some "hiding places" in there yet? I consider that the primary need. Immediately after that is something to let her go from one "big thing" in the cage to another without having to climb on the cage wall.

all husbandry items are important, but lighting is probably the most important of all, so i hope lineal reptisuns are on the list. jmo

i have a uvb 80 wat in a reflector lamp , im getting a heat lamp hopefully today how hot should a basking spot be ?

what type of of UVB, linear? UVB shouldnt be 80 watts, never heard of such a thing. The basking spot should not go over 80 but remember that Jacksonii are low light species.
