Expect Babies Soon?

Hello guys!
My Jackson's Chameleon (who is gravid) was roaming around her cage this morning, but has stopped. But, has rejected the food I have offered. Should I expect some babies soon?

How long since she mated?

Generally birthing happens in the mornings.

I wasn't home when Chi-Chi birthed. Instead I got an excited call from my son telling me there were babies in the viv so I have no idea what the immediate signs are.

birthing when?

assuming we are talking about a healthy female that is clearly gravid (and clearly dislaying gravid colors) and the female is fat and lumpy, they seem to get less active as they get closer, staying to one spot mostly, and it is common for them to quit eating 1-3 weeks before birthing. sometimes they will get antsy and start cage crawling a day or two before. they usualy birth in the morning within a 1-3 hr period . if the female stops eating i like to put a dilute bug/cacium/ dilute vitamin water(changed daily) in their dripper. jmo hope that helps

She is very fat, and she hasn't eaten today as well, as well as still being antsy. But, she looks nothing like what you described as gravid colors in your thread "Moment of Truth?". She is more like the video of this Jackson's chameleon.

it is possible for jacksons to be gravid to full term without displaying gravid colors. a couple of weeks before this last clutch, i had a completely failed birthing by my largest female who displyed no gravid coloration (aside from a couple of small dark spots). the mother of the previous clutch never even lost her gravid coloration from one clutch to the next. the gravid colored one gave birth to the micro neonates on 1-27-10, the non gravid colored one had a failed birthing about a week before. neither was expected and because of that, neither was conditioned properly to be prepared for a healthy birthing. both pictures were taken post birthing but both appear much as they did just prior to birthing. i think gravid coloration is by far the more common of the two

just because your jacksons is not showing typical gravid coloration is not really an indicator if when it will birth or if it will birth healthy. i think the biggest indicator of when it will birth is the cesation of eating, and the getting antsy after a period of relative inactivity. i dont think there are any concrete indicators , but from what i can gather, it should be sometime soon, all you can do is keep a close eye out and the best advice i can give is to be ready before hand, instead of waiting until the birthing. i think the best pre indicaters of the health of the clutch are the general health of the parents (especially the mother) and the conditioning of the mother. hope it all goes well

Bummers. Keep taking good care of her -- and yourself of course too.

Well, its almost been a week and no babies. She still roams around her cage, but stops at around 10:30. Then she basks the rest of the day. She still drinks like a champ, so thats good. I getting more excited every day.

Hang in there, Some Day will come. And then we will want pics!

Well, after about a week and three days of not eating, she decided it was time to eat some superworms. She is getting a lighter green and is always thats color. But, hasn't eaten since Monday.

Just hang in there, I am with you. I have been waiting for my quad to lay this clutch almost forever. They say when she is ready she will lay. What they don't tell you is we may not have any hair left sorry i just can't bite a fingernail. Ugh!!

Oh ya! I felt her belly for the first time today in about 2 weeks, and it feels like she is about to blow. The babies in her belly(including other stuff) feels to be about 2 to 3 times bigger from a month ago. So close!

Okay, hang in there. And consider this that period of time for getting everything ready -- 'cause when it happens you don't want to be scrambling for nursery, ff's, etc. Keep us posted.

I've had a nursery ready for the past 3 1/2 weeks. I just haven't ordered any fruit flies (I will be soon).
