Mantids vs Walking Sticks

Well, exotic walking sticks are technically illegal in the US. The only ones that are not are the native ones, or introduced species that are already established in your state (and that you collect.) The common feeder mantids (Chinese, European, and Carolina) are all legal and can be shipped, but exotic species are technically illegal. However, mantids are more intensive to raise because they need to eat other insects. Mantids are meatier, but stick insects are easily raised communally.

They both have pros and cons. I like mantids for babies and small chameleons because then I can just feed the freshly hatched mantids off. You can also let the mantids canibalize eachother and let them grow that way for a while, but eventually you will need to feed them other insects and separate them if you want to grow them bigger.
