Yes, I am still doubting those damn feet of Amy's! :D She had some feint brown barring today and also a tinge of yellow.:eek: It wasn't her peed off colour either - that is the very dark, almost black markings. I don't want to drag up the 'is she / isn't she' debate again, I am just curious that's all!

What age do male veileds on average start showing some colour other than green? For those of you who have had a baby male, what age did yours start to colour up?

SoCaliSon - sorry but it's still bugging me, lol!:D
 
my yemens started to change there colours at 4-5 months

Well if it holds true in chameleons that animals can sense when something is wrong, there was always something wrong with "Hershey". I had to separate him out at about 3 months because the others would go after him with a vengeance. Despite the correct UVB and all of the correct supplements, he has MBD. He still and will always live with me. He acts quite normal, eats fine, basks and moves around like anyone else. As you can see he did not retain the gorgeous brown colors but is colored just like many of his brothers and sisters. Here are some pics that I just took of him. He has a special place in my heart.

Aww! He's beautiful, and not the ugly duckling anymore, lol!! How did he get MBD - was he born with it? Maybe his clutch mates sensed it and bullied him.:( Glad you kept him, he's lovely!

Thanks for posting those pics of baby males. It is interesting to see how they colour up at different ages!:D

No one else out of this clutch of 69 had MBD. I truly have no idea except to think he is metabolically challenged somewhere.

Why do the edge of their heads and casques turn gray and blackish purple? Trogdor is starting to do that as well and even when he is sleeping it doesn't turn back.

Does it have to be MBD? couldn't he just have been born with disfigured limbs?

Blackishh-purple? That just sounds like a normal Veiled coloring thing.

It actually does not HAVE to be MBD-but he was not born with deformed limbs.

Oh no, is Amy back to being Amos after the recent shed? *hug*

Get a series of new pics up since the shed, i know the guessing game is a bit stressful for you, im sure no one here minds... beside we love the pics you take :D
 
Yeah well that's some serious MBD.
The problem may have been that if he was trapped with alpha males and kept down low he may have not gotten enough UV from the top of the enclosure
Secondly, there's a real chance that he might not have also gotten all the fresh crickets and powered insects until they dusted themselves off.

megga dosing is one way to help prevent additional MBD damage and deformation.
 
After he was separated he was under UVB and getting properly dusted food (heavily dusted, and additional calcium). Malformation did not show up until between 6-7 months. I have no dseire to subject him to studies of any kind, but would have to still stick with the fact that he is metabolically challenged in some way that his body does not utilize calcium properly.
