male panther eating habits

Hi,

I have 6 month old panther male & I just wanted to confirm he's eating enough. He'll eat 3 feeders per day, & sometimes only every other day. I give him crickets & locusts mostly, & try to offer roaches & various worms as much as I can.

I got a 9mo panther recently. He eats 2-3 large locusts a day and that's it. Gotta be something in the air eh:confused:

I guess there is! I remember the day I got him home- he'd been travelling for at least 24 hrs & he ate everything in sight... since then he's slowed down.

I got an oustalet's cham the other week & he eats & poops so big it's shocking! It's almost like cleaning up after a dog lol Must remember my other boys are much smaller & try not to compare their eating to his.

They tend to slow down their eating habits as they grow into adulthood. i think its pretty normal. My male panther would eat only every couple of days sometimes and only a few large crickets when he did.

That doesnt sound like enough for 6 months. I suppose it depends on the size of the locusts and what your temperatures are like / how active he is. The main thing is to ensure he continues to grow and gain weight.

His basking temp is a little low at the moment. I'm getting a higher wattage basking bulb today. My understanding is that his basking temp should be 90F?

He's on xtra large locusts & crickets.

I'd aim for 85F for your basking spot for your 6+ month old
day basking spot 90F/32C would be for an adult male
Non breeding females and baby/Juvenile basking spot should be kept at a lower temp, closer to 80F/26C
day mid-cage/ ambient range 70-80F /21 -26C
night to a low of 65F/18C (juveniles only down to 68F)

Ok, I'll play with his basking temp til it's right. I've done the maths & he's 7 months, if that makes any difference.

Since I got him his eating has stuck at 3-5 feeders per day. I think he's playing games with me too. Today, I gave him a bowl with 5 crickets & 2 superworms...guess which ones were left at the end of the day lol

I'll weigh him on monday & see how he's doing in that respect.
