Male ambilobe won't mate

Hey everyone my female ambilobe is receptive again but I can't get my male to mate with her. When I show them to each other she just stares at him and sometimes starts to walk slowly away from him but never darkens or gapes. However my male will fire up and do the typical I'm pissed off stuff like puff out his neck and elongate his body to appear bigger and do the ninja hand pose. I've tried introducing him to her cage her to his cage and freeranging in and outdoors. On Friday he was acting really weird and looked like he was gunna EAT her! Yes I said EAT her! Lol he was walking toward her opening his mouth with his tongue starting to come out like he was going to shoot at her! My bf quickly put his hand up to prevent him from shooting her with the tongue but all he did was try to go around his hand to get to her like he hadnt eaten in a week and she was a big juicy silkworm lol so we had to separate them. Anyone have any advice? We are considering giving up on his breeding ability and thinking about getting another male soon

Maybe he is just confused and doesn't know how to express his excitement. Or he could be asexual. I have a male who is just not interested in breeding.

gentleman

The male i bought as a backup for my girls, turned out not to be intersted. He will, but he follows at the pace of the female, therefore never actually getting there. My original, is what i call the rapist. He runs over and wham bam thank you mam. Both my females seem to dig him, but won't let my gentleman have any fun. Nice guys always finish last. Maybe let someone elses male breed with yours, while your guy can see it from a distance. a little jealousy or give him time. The first time my male bred, he humped her back, her neck, the air, her ear, everywhere. After 2 hrs, she just went and hid. It was the next day, before he figured it out. patience grasshopper.

My daughter and I have had panther's that were in good health (had regular check ups from a qualified chameleon vet) and they never their entire life wanted to breed. The vet said they were just too laid back. My veiled Luie was extremely laid back and my vet told me he would probably not want to breed but he did so you just never know. We have also had panthers that would breed and the eggs from the females they were with would never be fertile.

Wow thanks for all the replies!

KatiLemons- Thanks, I never thought about either of those. I just assumed males in the wild need to breed to pass on their genes so it should just be a natural thing all males instinctively know how to express and would be interested in! One time when he was about 8 months we put an hibiscus flower in his cage cuz we had heard veileds and some panthers like to eat them. About an hour later we caught him on top on it with his hemipenes out! But I've still never seen a head bob lol so he does seem like a confused cham

SandraChameleon- Yea I'm starting to think maybe he's just not a breeder. Love him either way tho lol he's my spoiled baby always getting what he wants (he's constantly trying to find a way to get out of his cage and on to our free range tree lol) so I will probably keep trying maybe eventually get another female in case he just isn't interested in the one we have. And omg I would have freaked out if he had shot her eye! So glad my bf stopped him before that happened!

JungleFries- I always just assumed all males were supposed to be like your original lol but it's nice to know some need to take a little more time to learn. We are planning to get another male this weekend at the Anaheim Reptile show so when he's old enough maybe we will let him try to breed with the female and let our current male see his competition. I've heard sometimes this works if the competition is smaller then he feels he out competed and won over the female lol so maybe that will work. And yes I'm slowly learning I need to be patient

JannB- Definitely nice to know a male can be completely healthy and still not want to breed. I know my boy is healthy but sometimes I second guess like his not wanting to breed is something bad. I am learning to just accept him for who he is lol but still gunna give him chances to breed every once in a while just in case he changes his mind

Omg omg! Super excited! Patience is the key! Introduced them again right now and this happened

How long after they disconnect and she walks away is he supposed to put his private junk away? Cuz he's still flaunting it after like 5 mins. Although he is still bobbing again

Lol nvm he popped and put it away. Took him out tho cuz he was trying to go for round 2 and she was not happy about it lol
