making/mixing potting soil

Do any of you mix your potting soil. I know most of you use ''topsoil'' Is it worth mixing it with anything else?

I see. A few people said rocks at the bottom, a layer of sand and then top soil. Would this work well? ATM i've got rocks at the bottom and some organic soil. My plants don't ever really THRIVE though.

try this, go to a bed bath and beyond and pick up an aqua globe. you fill it up and stick it in the soil. it gives ur plant the right amount of water needed. this way you dont have to worry about too much water or not enough. it helped me out a lot with my plants!

What I do is fully wash the plant with mild soap, knocking allof the old dirt off and then I pot it with:

1. a layer of small chunks of styrofoam (drainage- about 1" layer)

2. sprinkling of organic topsoil

3. the plant planted and packed down with organic topsoil mixed with perilite and vermiculite (for drainage)

4. a 1/2" layer of organic topsoil (in case the cham breaks into it)

5. a layer or large black river stones to keep the cham out of it.

It looks pretty nice when all done. :)
