Macro Lens?

I am looking to purchase a macro lens for my D40.
Does anyone know what a good lens might be?
I'm not trying to spend a bunch either.
I found a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
for 199.99 is this a good deal?
Does anyone know of a good site to buy a Nikon lens?
Any products to stay away from?

Thanks
Sorry Josh(LLC) 400.00 was a little to much.

Thats on the approach of a steep price for a 50mm in my opinion, but I would suggest buying on used anywas. If you really want a nice Nikon Macro, I'd take a look at the 60mm, and 105mm, but the S40 is limiting as far as lens compatibility. A 50mm should be fine for a lot of what you will likely be shooting though.

I shoot with canon, but my 60mm macro/2.8 is the greatest lens I've ever owned. But you'll pay. It was around 460 or something. Worth every penny in my opinion. The images are so crisp and clear, they make me look like I'm good at it.

1.8 - I'm a newb photographer, but 1.8 seems like the depth of field would be so narrow that it would be impossible to use it for macro. 2.8 is already too narrow. I'll often have the top of my cham's eye in focus, and the base of his eye, out of focus. It's fun at first, and then quickly becomes difficult.

So should I be looking for someting higher than 2.8?
I'm very new at the photo thing, but I want some of the basics.
I also would love a 300mm or higher lens, but that will be later on.

I bought a used 60mm macro 2.8 used for 250.00 shipped.
I know they just came out with a 105mm 2.8 auto focus.:D
They want like 750.00 for that bad boy.

I'm pretty new too. I only have a few years experience total. You should have fun with the 60mm macro. If it's a canon and it's in good shape, you got a steal!
