All in all, this was the easiest appointments yet. Didn’t feel like doom or gloom leaving and quality of life conversation wasn’t something to talk about? Going back to the original plan with diluted iodine soaks for 10-15 mins a day and manuka honey or silvadine for the open sore(going to go manuka and see how different that may be in process). I am going to keep him in his main enclosure and add some thicker branches so there isn’t so much pressure on gripping with him. I walked out feeling really good. It was a relief that the vet too, was seeing a lot of improvement in him and it wasn’t all just in my head and constant fucking hawk observation.
 
I appreciate everyone for their support and for having a safe place for talking (sometimes manically) about Lou and for such a wealth of knowledge I’ve gained the last month and a half. Not feeling like I need to outreach h every instant now, I need to chill and keep doing what I’m doing and be effing patient.

Also- he is on a stronger antibiotic for every 3 days. As the fortaz, and being on it for over a month and not doing much just didn’t seem reasonable.

Maybe nothing?! No. So I bought 3 new exoterra jungle vines because he seemed to grip them easier. I was worried the soft parts of his foot broke open due to climbing and rubbing on them as they are a bit rough/not smooth.

I put the mesh material there yesterday to help add softness to them after seeing his foot had bled.

I'm so glad things are slowly getting better!! Reptiles are notorious for extremely slow recoveries.
 
Re: the vines - I'd avoid the ExoTerra vines, as they're quite rough on the feet to begin with. the Fluker's foam vines are much nicer for their feet, and would likely be much better for Lou during his recovery! Alternatively, you can remove the vines entirely and just use branches. When Lily has a choice been a vine and branches, she always picks the fattest, most comfy branch!

Lou update.

It’s been almost two weeks since putting him back in his main enclosure.
The last five days- he hasn’t fallen once.
His defecating it’s going and looking better than ever.
His appetite is up, I have to Ben careful or he will eat all day.

Biggest sign of improvement is he is no longer lethargic! In fact yesterday after his antibiotic injection, and hydrotherapy and honey treatment he basically RAN off me and into his cage and is exploring higher points he hasn’t done in a long time. This morning he perched at his old drinking spot and drank without any assistance after dropping it .the honey is healing his wounds faster it’s seeming than the silvadine, but this may have to do with the different antibiotic. His weird swelling in one arm is now almost completely to normal, he is not grabbing his face anymore. He is getting his feeders dusted with only calcium at every feeding plus once a day 20-30 minutes out in the Texas sun.

Wondering if improvements of humidity and being back in his house is helping? Along with more rich nutrients, along with daily work with hydrotherapy and this new antibiotic every 3 days?! I am feeling really hopeful, just seeing him not sitting all day and clumsy. I’m so so looking forward to his next check up and bloodwork in 6 weeks,

I think his calcium injection, switching from fortaz to amikacin, getting out of the hospital bin and to much more proper and moderated husbandry, nutrition, sun bathing, betadine hydrotherapy and manuka honey instead of the tap water/faucet hydrotherapy and silvadine all are synchronized playing parts in this.
