Lots of eye problems

Its normal to see them pop their eyes out, and to see the red muscles moving around. This is just them flushing their eyes due to an irritant.

Ive noticed that mine do it more in the spring and summer. Perhaps this is due to high pollen counts in the air? My car almost looks yellow when I look at the correct angle due to the amount of pollen at this time of year. In the wild the pollen count and dust wouldnt be so high due to the ammount of forest filtering it, and the fact it rains a heck of a lot there. JMO on the matter, nothing scientific or tested and proven.

This is kind of what I was thinking it would be too~ maybe the transition from the midwest to AZ also makes his eyes more confused.

They mentioned a lump under the eye, which usually means something is stuck and forming a ball or there is infection, in both cases they would roll their eyes around. Try flushing like already stated but at least a wellness checkup would be a good idea :) can never be too cautious!

Kevin, I was prescribed some drops when I had an eye problem right after I received them the drops are called Neo-Poly-Dex Ophth drops. Are you familiar with these?

The neo is short for Neomycin which is a sister antibiotic to gentamicin. Both are in the aminoglycoside antibiotic family which are all excellent for gram-negative bacteria. Poly is polymyxin-B which is also for gram-negative bacteria, and dex is an anti-inflammatory steroid, dexamethasone. It is very good at reducing irritation, and in some animals we have to be very careful when we use it but in chams it's probably okay to use in most cases.

okay cool. They just looked kinda swollen, but it could be because of what drcrossfire said going from east coast to west coast and pollen has been really high and dry around here.. my allergies have been horrible lately.. I'll just use saline and wash his eyes out..

thanks for all of your help and answers.

From the photographs of your GOC it looks like you have large filters that your water is going through, is that correct? If not I'm wondering if the chlorine is part of the irritation.

For my GOC which I still need to put photos up I am just beginning to set up my watering system. I have bought 0.5 GPM drippers, 1.0 GPM drippers, an adjustable dripper, a fogger, and something they call a fogger/mister. I'm just going to try each one until I find whichever works best. And I may even split the lines to each cage and have one dripper and one of the foggers if that seems to work best. But I am trying to run it through a Wells filtration system to remove as much tapwater crud as I can.

And to all of the people with pollen issues… YES. Definitely definitely pollen will be a source of eye irritation.

Awesome, my thoughts were correct. It was just something tht occurred to me one day whilst looking at the mess of my car! Ill spread the news! lol

Yeah, I have a 1 micron, a 5 micron and a charcoal filters. There is no chlorine smell to the water after running through the filters.

Do you mean .5 GPH and 1.0 GPH drippers? 1.0 GPM isn't a dripper, it's a flood.:D
