losing nails ?

cage type: screen not sure the size
chameleon: 3 horned male jacksons
age: around a year old
i've noticed max (my jacksons chameleon ) is losing his toe nails i also have a veiled chameleon who hasn't lost any i've removed everything from max's cage cleaned it and re did it in fear of a fungal infection invading his habitat. i've noticed no matter what i do his vines smell like mildew even his new ones will his nails grow back? i've also noticed him randomly making snatching biting movements

Your cage is very barren with the only cover on the walls and mostly slick unnatural dowels for perches, which is probably why he is climbing the walls and destroying his nails. There is not place for him to hide but on the walls. He can't even get inside the fake plastic "plants."
