It was somewhere on here I think where I read a good article about spiral bulbs can cause blindness in chams. I've been searching here and online trying to find it b/c I want to print it off and mail it to a reptile store that I thought was knowledgeable until I saw the bulbs. They recommend the spiral bulbs also.

The basic rule of thumb is you don't use a CFL...... There had been issues with several brands. The new CFL from Zoo Med has been reformulated and 'shouldn't cause any issues. It is still being tested but i beleive the results are that it is 'safe' and that the instructions still need to be followed. This is because CFL lamps create a very large amount of UVB at close range and if proper distances aren't provided even though the UVB is 'good' UVB, there is too much of it to be healthy.

Here is a link to a thread where you can see how to identify the package the new lamps come in.
