Hi, I live in Biddeford, Maine, and am looking at getting my own chameleon friend! I'm looking at veiled chameleons of juvenile or younger age. I have been doing research and it is widely decided that it is region and climate specific. So i'm wondering what the experts recommend for my specific area! Glass or screen?

My zip code is 04005. I live in Biddeford, york county if that helps

Assorted weather and climate sources:

If you need any other info, Let me know!

(ps, this is my first post so any other tips for chameleon husbandry would also be appreciated!)

Thanks!

If this is your first Chameleon then I would recommend a screen enclosure. Glass ones are doable but may be a little tricky for a possible newbie. And if you're not aware you'll have a significant investment with the enclosure to includes the proper lightening, plants, hydration/misting/fogging and other goodies you'll need.

Okay, I was leaning towards screen as they are the most widely used in different climates, I do know that it will be expensive, But i'm willing to invest the money for an awesome friend (or pet, whichever is more applicable) I think without AC in my house a screen would be good aswell. Thanks!

Screen is actually less expensive than glass unless you go with super high quality Dragon Strand. I suggest heading over to Dragonstrand.com and looking around. Even if you get an inexpensive Repti Breeze or similar, dragon ledges are incredible for hanging plants, branches etc. They also have a drainage tray that many swear by.

I prefer dragon strand. Glass can be great when set up properly but they are still limited in their space. If your looking at glass exo terra of the right size that would be comparable price wise to doing a Dragon strand. I really love the hybrid version and I get fantastic air flow.
